About this property

Tithe Barn, Lyneham is a superb choice for a large gathering of friends or family looking to be located right in the heart of the Cotswolds and within a very comfortable and spacious barn conversion. We see it as the ideal choice for a family country holiday given its surroundings, tucked down a very quiet lane on the edge of small village. Set on a working farm within a small Cotswolds hamlet, the barn has nearby access to the rolling countryside of the Oxfordshire Cotswolds. Over the years guests have regularly returned to Tithe Barn (which is a very good sign) and we suspect it is because it has a wonderful open plan living space which is absolutely ideal for entertaining. The owners who are around the corner and happy to give advice and ideas on what to do locally have worked hard to make this an attractive destination and together the property and the classic countryside surroundings make it perfect as a get-a-way choice. Internally the barn has been well renovated and provides superb facilities and touches including the enormous windows in the centre of the building. Externally this English Country barn has an enclosed garden and access to brilliant walks in every direction. An absolute favourite with our customers, and you can see why.

PLEASE NOTE THE COTTAGE CAN SLEEP 10 PEOPLE IN TOTAL 8 IN BEDS AND 2 ON THE SOFA BED. You can use the sofa bed FREE of charge but you MUST bring your own bed linen and towels for the sofa bed.

The large village of Lyneham is situated at the southern end of the Cotswold Hills, in rural northern Wiltshire, close to the border with Gloucestershire. Lyneham is probably best remembered as the base of the RAF’s Hercules fleet; the base was closed in 2012 and now hosts a Defence Training College. The village is well served by local businesses, including restaurants, pubs and shops, whilst the larger community of Royal Wootton Bassett is just 4 miles away. The friendly market town of Wootton Bassett was granted Royal patronage in 2011, due to its link with the repatriation of military personnel who sadly lost their lives serving their country overseas.

I note comments made by a previous guest in Sep 2023 have not been addressed. There was little in the way of instruction; the tv was complicated, the heating was set to specific times and didn't really warm the downstairs at the times we were in. We did light the fire but it left the house smelling of smoke. The mirrors were too high for anyone below the height of 6' and there was a lack of mirrors in key rooms. The decor is dated and basic and the small touches normally associated with a property so far from amenities, like a pint of milk in the fridge would have been a nice touch. The beds were comfortable but the extra bed in the main bedroom was not useable. We were overall comfortable and we were able to go for a walk to a pub near by but I would suggest it was a basic large property with plenty of space for large groups.

Super space to chill, eat, drink and party. Very short drive to pubs, restaurants and cafes. Secure garden for dogs. Only minor criticism is that the barn was almost too warm!

The only criticism from our family was that their beds were hard and uncomfortable. We had a mattress topper on ours which was good, so maybe the rest need the same, apart from that it was a great holiday. Thanks.
