Two miles east of Hayle is the little West Cornwall village of Gwinear. The village's northern end and the Angarrack valley are both visible from the settlement's hilltop location. The Royal Standard, a bar in the community that serves a full menu, a selection of ales, and accepts dogs, also boasts a sizable beer garden. In addition, fresh, seasonal vegetables can be picked up or delivered every week from Herland Roots, a 3/4 acre market garden. Less than five miles away lies Gwithian Towans Beach, a stunning expanse of Cornish sand that is a section of the three miles of beach known as The Towans (Cornish for "dune").
