About this property

A superb, Grade II listed stone-built property, situated in a delightful position in the rural village of Ipstones, on the western edge of the National Park. This exceptional property has been skilfully created from the conversion of a lovely old barn to provide spacious accommodation of a very high standard. Care has been taken to retain much of the original charm and character of the property including solid old beams and exposed stone. The accommodation is upside down to take advantage of the light and the barn's splendid natural features. The magnificent sitting room has a vaulted, beamed ceiling which is open to the eaves, while the second sitting room features a double bed, so you can relax with a good film. A rather special base for a relaxing holiday at any time of the year.

Located on the western fringes of the Peak District in spectacular moorland countryside, the attractive village of Ipstones sits between the market towns of Leek and Ashbourne. With a post office, village shop and pubs serving food, this little settlement is a well-served base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. The impressive scenery is excellent for walking and cycling and offers miles of woodland trails and moorland hikes for all levels of ability. Dovedale and the limestone Churnet Valley are within easy driving distance, as is the Manifold Trail. Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Lyme Park are also very close by. For those looking for a more thrill-filled holiday, the Alton Towers Theme Park is within easy reach and makes a great trip out for all the family.

Directions accurate with family coming from both directions. Lovely location. Happily recommend to friends.

The house is stunning and had everything you could think of that you would need for a weekend stay. There was plenty of pots and pans, glasses and cooking utensils, lots of toys for the children to play with and high chair and stair gate also provided too. There is plenty of space, we never felt on top of each other it was just what we wanted. The courtyard is safely enclosed so they children and dog could be outside without any worry that they could get out. I messaged the owners for advice on a walk best to take with a pushchair, they responded straight back to n and it was a perfect 3 mile circular walk around the countryside finishing up at the red lion pub! Can’t wait to return next year!

It was very clean generally but did find substantial cobwebs in the lounge albeit amongst the beams and light fittings in most cases. The paintwork is now looking tired, especially up the staircase. We slept in the bedroom with patio doors onto the garden, which could explain why, when on getting out of bed the first morning, I stood on one of a couple of slugs on the carpet. Several more appeared during our stay and there was a constant unpleasant smell from the bathroom. Would these comments put me off staying again, certainly not, the barn is still a fantastic property for large parties to get together. The size is quite substantial and comfortably and sympathetically furnished. I would just point out to the owners that the leak in the small first floor window in the lounge, overlooking the road us still ongoing.
