About this property

Estuary Barn is a lovely self-catering barn consisting of traditional features within this delightful Suffolk village.

Estuary Barn is part of a small group of well-converted farm buildings on a 40-acre smallholding. Located on the banks of the River Alde, there are stunning views from the  private balcony over the Alde Estuary and the rspb reserve (you may even spot the occasional seal). This first-floor self-catering holiday property is ideal for a family or small group of friends looking for a bolt hole during their time in Suffolk. Both bedrooms have their own En-suite facilities and the open plan living area offer a great space for relaxing and entertaining during your holiday, with all the main rooms overlooking the stunning estuary. Estuary Barn is also a pet friendly property with the added bonus of allocated parking.  Nearby activities include horse riding, canoe hire, and Tunstall Forest is perfect for walking or cycling. Why we love this property: Sit back after an action-packed day and admire the view from the private balcony with a glass of something special.

Iken is a reputed base of Boudica and the marauding Iceni tribes who made good use of the commanding position on the south side of the Alde Estuary. Later, in 869AD, a Viking sailing fleet destroyed the 7th Century monastery at Iken. In the 19th Century sailing barges used the river to trade corn and coal between Snape, London and the east coast ports. Now, you will see the occasional pleasure boat whilst taking in the highly regarded sssi wildlife habitat and the stunning estuary scenery. Views span from the 7th Century St Butolphs Church, standing on a promontory of higher ground, to the former maltings at Snape which are now vibrant with the sounds of the famous concert hall.
