Gisleham is a small village located between Kessingland and Carlton Colville and just a few miles to Lowestoft - a seaside town known for its former fishing industry. Gisleham's name descends from the Gislingas who were Norsemen (Vikings). In 880AD, Gisli the Viking settled in the village of Gisleham close to the Suffolk Coast, however, one of his sons travelled west into rural Suffolk and settled in Gislingham. Gisleham has lots of open fields and countrysideas well as a primary school and the Holy Trinity Church is one of a few existing round-tower churches. There are some great pubs and restaurants close by including Five Bells Inn at Wrentham and The Bell Inn in Carlton Colville. You can also find the nearest supermarket less than two miles away. Gisleham is also a short drive from the Waveney Broads at Oulton Broad as well as just a fifteen minute drive to the seaside town of Southwold and therefore provides a great central base to many different Suffolk areas.
