Steeped in history and culture, Stratford-upon-Avon is set in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside on the banks of the River Avon. Stratford is a popular tourist destination and as the birthplace of William Shakespeare is home to the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company theatre. The Bard's birthplace and other houses connected to his family are open to visitors throughout the year and boast 16th Century furnishings and beautiful grounds and gardens. Bordered by landscaped parks and offering an array of activities, the River Avon is a great place to enjoy cruises, rowing and motorboat rides. Stratford is packed with excellent restaurants and bars and is within easy driving distance of Warwick and the Cotswold villages of Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-Marsh, making it an excellent vacation spot regardless of the time of year.
