About this property

Glenfield is a beautiful secluded country house, situated on the edge of the village of Kington Magna. When you get to the end of Breach Lane, the landscape opens out to reveal the house, set in 3.5 acres of garden and with stunning panoramic views across the Blackmore Vale. A fantastic place for a large family, two family or multi-generational break in this lovely part of Dorset, Glenfield can sleep up to 10 guests in five bedrooms and over three storeys. On arrival, you will be thrilled to find a house with charming exterior, along with stunning formal and wild gardens and a swimming pool. In the garden has a summerhouse with a long stoop - a wonderful place to watch the sun set. Inside is a table-tennis table and pool table, where children can play, away from the adults. At night there is very little light pollution as Cranborne Chase is a Dark Sky Reserve, so on a clear night it’s an excellent spot for stargazing. Beyond the summerhouse is a trampoline and there is a rope swing below the house in the woods. The front door leads into a large stone-floored hallway, where you can leave coats and boots. The kitchen is a mixture of the clean lines of the Scandinavian limed oak cabinets, and old pine cupboards, with plenty of work surface and a double oven, dual-fuel range cooker. There is a farm shop nearby in East Stour, with all manner of local produce to cook with (or ready-made dishes from Cook!) The kitchen has great views over the garden and double doors opening out onto a large deck with a long table for summer lunches and a comfortable outdoor sofa. On cooler evenings, you can eat at the dining table which enjoys the warm glow of the wood burning stove creating the perfect socialising space. The sitting room is nearby and is beautifully furnished in a modern cottage style with a large comfortable corner sofa, piano, wood burning stove and a small round table perfect for playing cards or a board game and a flat screen TV. There is a utility room beyond the kitchen, where you can throw any muddy clothing into the washing machine, and also a cosy, handy cloakroom. Branching off the lovely bright landing at the top of the stairs you will find the three of five thoughtfully laid-out bedrooms. The large king-size room has an abundance of windows framing the amazing views, a freestanding bath and an en-suite shower room. There is also a spacious twin room and bunk room, both perfect for the youngsters of the group. A fabulous family bathroom can be found close-by, where a freestanding bath takes centre stage and a large shower both with fantastic views of the garden. Climb the stairs again to the attic floor to find the last two of the five bedrooms, one of which is a delightful double which benefits from access to a show-stopping en-suite bathroom, with freestanding bath and walk-in shower, as well as a twin room situated across the landing. The views from the top floor are breathtaking, don't be surprised to see buzzards, a heron on the pond, wild rabbits and deer when you open the curtains in the morning. Make the most of the property's large garden where a swimming pool can be found, perfect for sunny afternoons, along with a football goal, a woodland play area, a spacious decked area with furniture for alfresco dining, as well as an idyllic pond. There are two outdoor cooking areas with fire pits and logs provided and a stunning long grass meadow with romantic cut grass paths weaving through. The wild flowers are incredible, the crickets sing and the dragon flies dart around the pond and the meadow. The garden is a true wildlife sanctuary. When you finally decide to tear yourself away from this fantastic property, there are many lovely footpath walks from the house. The Stapleton Arms pub is a short walk across the fields, in the village of Buckhorn Weston. The food is great and it has a large beer garden and the village playground is just next door. There are many shops a short drive away in East Stour, Gillingham and Wincanton. Bruton is a twenty minute’s drive, well known for it’s galleries, including Hauser and Wirth, with it’s Piet Oudolf designed garden, and very fine places to eat, such as At The Chapel, the Roth Bar And Grill and the Michelin starred Osip. The Newt, in the same direction, is a great place to eat and has elaborate gardens as well as selling its own fine cider, made from the huge number of different apples that grow there. Shaftesbury, is also a short drive away, where you can tour the Shaftesbury Abbey & Museum, explore the Gold Hill made famous by the Hovis Advert and walk in nearby Duncliffe Woods. Stourhead is the most notable National Trust property nearby and it’s gardens are laid out to create incredible vistas, with temples, lakes and waterfalls> Kingston Lacy is also nearby and stunning. Longleat is 30 minutes away and has the Safari Park and the House and Gardens are wonderful. Sherborne is also a short drive, a market town that is home to the famed Sherborne Steam and Waterwheel Centre, Sherborne Abbey with its impressive interiors, Sherborne Castle and many great restaurants including the Clock spire in nearby Milborne Port. Treat yourself and your loved ones to an unforgettable break at Glenfield.

West Stour is a rural village on the boundary of South East Somerset and North Dorset. It is part of a collection of communities known as 'The Stours,' so named because the River Stour, popular with fisherman, runs nearby. The surrounding landscape is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, abundant in wildlife, and boasts some wonderful rural walks. It is located on the edge of the Blackmore Vale, which was used as a backdrop in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles.

. sadly cut short by a day due to work commitments. This was our 2nd stay as a family (meeting up from all over the UK). We swam daily, visited lovely Bruton, had coffee & cake in the Old Chapel.... walked up to the Dovecote.. bought scrumptious steaks from the nearby farm shop, walked to the Stapleton Arms for drinks & played cards & went on various walks. The boys used the football goals for their weekly training & one used the nearby gym. It is the most perfect house for us, with plenty of room… woodburning fires, board games, plenty of toys for our 4yr old & wonderful grounds for our blue whippet to enjoy.. The owners seem to have thought of everything. The cleaners do an amazing job too. Sincerely hope to visit again next year. Always so very sad to leave

Clean, comfortable and well-equipped, the cottage is full of interesting artwork and books / games for entertainment. The pool is amazing and was used by us every day (rain or shine!). Games room is great and we also had a fire-pit BBQ. Stunning property which I'm sure we'll be back to use again! A great time had by all.

This may be due to the local council, but we had nowhere to put our rubbish, due to the bins being overfull from the previous guests.
