It is a beautiful place ,and we wouldn't hesitate in recommending it, or going ourselves again, it was a lovely holiday in a fantastic place. 5 stars.

The welcome we received from the proprietress was less than effusive and scant explanation was provided by her regarding the property and its facilities including, crucially, the water system. My wife and I had arrived before our son and his partner, who when taking a walk about the property as we had been told we could, were unceremoniously confronted by the proprietress and treated as though they were trespassers. Such a situation could readily have been avoided by a polite enquiry of them rather than resorting to making a judgment based solely upon their appearance. Unforgivably, no apology was ever proffered to my son. Since the principal purpose of our trip to North Yorkshire was to provide him with a much needed change of scenery given the mental illness from which he suffers the distress that this caused him cast an immediate blight on the holiday from which he was never able to recover fully and nor, indeed, were we. When there was no hot water on the following day, despite following the cursory instructions that had been given us, a further confrontation with the proprietress took place during which my son became increasingly distressed by the tone that she adopted and was himself then accused by her of being aggressive. All of us were made to feel that whatever had happened to the hot water system was due to our own failure to follow her instructions. To add salt to the wound, despite a previous assurance that the water tank was sizeable and should last the four of us for twenty four hours, when my son’s partner, who has fibromyalgia, took a much-needed, ten minute shower on the third morning to help her move more freely, the supply of cold water ran dry and no one else could wash or even make a cup of tea until the system had refilled. It should be emphasised at this stage that, whenever we met or sought his help, the proprietor was unfailingly courteous and pleasant, for which we were very grateful. Despite his kind efforts however none of us felt at ease and we left a day early, as coincidentally did the people who had been staying in the adjoining cottage, who when doing so expressed concerns of their own to us. Suffice it to say that we will not return to the property and would not recommend that our acquaintances should do so. Whilst the accommodation itself was generally acceptable and its location was quiet and pleasant, nonetheless, the chance discovery of shards of broken glass on the floor beneath one of the beds was disappointing. The absence of a welcome pack; despite the nearest shops being some miles distant, struck a further discordant note as did the fact that four single use milk containers in the refrigerator each had an expiry date of 4 September 2022. Sometimes it is the little things that resonate the most.
