A fabulous child and dog-friendly cottage sleeping 10 in 5 bedrooms and with 4 bathrooms - perfect for friends and family holidaying together in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
Bramble Bottom is an attractive, period stone building situated in the picture postcard perfect village of Muker, Swaledale. The village is famous for its stunning wildflower meadows, exquisite examples of the now threatened traditional upland hay meadow. May to July sees a riot of colour and an abundance of wildlife. The public footpaths around the village provide an excellent grandstand to admire this dazzling display.
The village itself has a thriving community and boasts an excellent local pub serving real ale and great food, Swaledale Woollens and Craft Gallery, a village store and a wonderful traditional tea room - their Yorkshire rarebit is a must! The first Wednesday of September sees the annual agriculture and horticultural show - a slice of rural England in a truly stunning location.
Bramble Bottom can claim to be the only large cottage in this popular village. It has a wonderful central location and is just 50 yards away from open fire and real ales of The Farmers Arms, which has just got top place in the Yorkshire Post's guide to the best dog friendly pubs to visit during a walk!
Beautifully furnished with a contemporary feel, this is an 'upside down' cottage - its quirky layout lending itself perfectly to group holidays. The bedrooms are situated in 2 side wings, giving plenty of privacy. Indeed 3 of the 5 bedrooms are ensuite and have their own floor! The Meadow & Swaledale Sheep rooms make up the ‘family suite’, sharing the 1st floor of the East Wing and a family bathroom
Each bedroom is a celebration of Swaledale and has its own theme - kids will love the Swaledale Sheep Room with its eponymous wall hanging. The Tour de France room is in honour of of the great race passing through the village in 2014.
West Wing: Waterfalls Room [first floor], Tour de France room [ground floor]. Both with king size beds and en suites with walk in showers and WCs.
East Wing: The Meadow Room, Swaledale Sheep Room & family bathroom with bath and overhead shower [first floor]. Both bedrooms have super-king zip & link beds which can be arranged as two singles or a double. Heather Room [ground floor] - This room has a king-size bed and an en suite with a walk-in shower and WC.
The shared open plan living space occupies the top floor in the central part of the building - making the most of those beautiful views. High 'attic' ceilings provide plenty of character and a wood burner keeps things nice and cosy in the evening. The kitchen is modern and fully equipped - it also has full sets of cutlery/crockery for children. The grand solid oak dining table is a great place for that celebration meal. There is a wine/drinks chiller on the upper floor.
Super fast WiFi, a SMART flatscreen TV with Freeview is provided together with a DVD/CD player. The TV has numerous apps installed - including the main i players - so you can catch up on all your favourite programmes. In addition, a 250W sound bar system with bluetooth connectivity allows music streaming from your own devices which will keep the troops happy and for the youngest members there is a supply of books, toys and games. Additional baby/ toddler equipment is available on request.
Outside you will find a sheltered patio looking over the village green - a great place for games and picnics! Bikes and outdoor equipment can be safely locked away in the garage and there is private parking for up to three cars. A Weber gas BBQ is available on request.
The cottage has been awarded the Sounds Good Charter Mark. A portable, battery-operated Fire and Wake-up alarm (‘Deafgard’) can be provided and the television has subtitles.
Bramble Bottom has a state of the art biomass heating system and low energy appliances and lighting have been installed wherever possible.
Muker is a fantastic place to visit all year round and is an ideal base for exploring the National Park. The scenery is second to none and there is excellent walking and cycling from the doorstep. There are walks to suit all abilities - whether you prefer a gentle stroll or something much more challenging! Long distance paths, the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast Walk meet in the village, or you could attempt the evocatively named ‘Corpse Way’ - a medieval route from nearby Keld to the (then) nearest burial ground at Grinton. For something a bit different, you might even try a spot of alpaca trekking!
A great visitor attraction all year round is the Wensleydale Creamery in the lovely market town of Hawes, six miles from Bramble. Great visitor centre, cheese demos and tastings and loved by Wallace and Gromit!
If you are looking for adrenaline adventures then you will find a great range of activities locally, including climbing, abseiling, mountaineering, canoeing and kayaking. Find out more about this fascinating area by visiting the Dales Countryside Museum at Hawes. The magnificent castles of Middleham, Castle Bolton and Richmond each make for a fabulous day out.
