WHITE BEAR COTTAGE sleeping up to 4 guests

Peacefully situated in the picturesque village of Stillington, these former farm buildings have been tastefully converted into two charming, detached holiday cottages. Each cottage features exposed beams and floor to ceiling windows, and a private area to sit out and relax, overlooking the lawned garden. The village amenities include a shop, choice of two pubs and an Indian restaurant, and all are within easy walking distance. There are numerous walks and cycling trails from the doorstep, and just beyond lie the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Visit the quaint market towns of Easingwold and Helmsley, abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx, stately homes at Castle Howard and Nunnington Hall, and the World Heritage Site at Fountains Abbey. Just a 20-minute drive takes you to the ancient walled city of York, with its abundance of renowned attractions, including the iconic minster, castle museum and Jorvik Centre. Take a trip to the coast and the traditional resorts of Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, or enjoy the stunning scenery of the North Yorks Moors from the famous steam train which travels from Pickering to the fishing port of Whitby. Horse racing can be found at Thirsk, Ripon and York, gliding at Sutton Bank and family fun at Flamingo Land. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

"Had everything needed, a good cleanliness standard, friendly welcome . Arrival instructions clear. One or two housekeeping issues such as light bulbs not replaced etc but overall excellent. Location good, as it was New Year's Eve, booked into local pub for meal and found people to be friendly and welcoming and the food was good too."
    Julie

    Trish
    "Second time lovely cottage"
    Stephanie
"Fantastic cottage, we will be going back soon."
    Pamela
"Great week although a bit too hot for comfort and design of cottage made this difficult to deal with but outside of exceptional temperatures there wouldn't be a problem. Good to be in a holiday cottage with comfortable sofas! We travelled around on local buses and it was a good service and saved parking hassles.Lots to see and do within a shortish distance."
    Sean

    "Nice cottage,lovely garden."
    jennie
"Lovely cottage in gorgeous village. Only niggles were we could not read by lamps in bedroom or lounge because of low energy bulbs......... and the noise from the building sight which hopefully will soon be finished."
    Mark
"We stayed at the White Bear Cottage with another couple as we were both going to a wedding in the village. The cottage was in a very convenient location and had almost everything we needed. The only thing it could have done with was a second bathroom but otherwise it was great. It even came with a pond at the bottom of the garden and resident friendly ducks!"
    pete
"Very nice , clean, lovely village ,enjoyed the ducks"
    Chris
"Lovely cottage in a great location. 2 good pubs only a 2 minute walk away. Will definitely recommend to friends and family."
    Karen
"Great little cottage. Had everything we needed. Loved feeding the ducks every day that turned up on the doorstep! Would definitely stay again."
    Patricia
"We had such a good time. The village was great and having a dog as both pubs allowed us to take her in was a bonus. The surrounding area was interesting. The place we could walk the dog was good but we had to ask around to find it, it would havebeen nice to have had a note in the cottage as to where it was. The cottage could also have had a broom, as we wore walking boots, and a muddy dog. We had to sweep up the best we could with a hand broom."
    Gareth
"Lovely cottage in a great location. We'll certainly be back!"
    Confirmed guest
"Wonderful cottage, loved the garden and local ducks."
    Marion
"Pretty village location but unfortunately new homes development right next door to the property so there is some disturbance from the site at the present time."
    Cathy
"Compact property, comfy beds and well equipped. Great location for places like York and the coast is near enough to visit. Tranquil and peaceful location."
    James
"Lovely cottage in a tiny one street village 12 miles from York. The accommodation was adequate for 3 adults and a dog, and the football-sized field at the rear of the house plus the free roaming ducks and a barrel of barley to feed them was a big unexpected bonus for my 90 year old mother-in-law who loved hand feeding them. There is only one pub/restaurant in the village, well within walking distance called The White Bear which had a lovely English Country village pub atmosphere, very busy and very friendly and which sold brilliant food at slightly inflated prices compared to other places we ate in in the area. It was remote though and being surrounded by unlit winding country roads with heavy goods vehicles tearing around blind bends it was a bit offputting especially when impatient drivers following our more cautious speeds were getting visibly frustrated.Still, it was a good enter for visiting York, Harrogate, Whitby, Castle Howard and Helmsley,, not forgetting Eden Camp near Malton. The only issue of note with the cottage was the shower compartment grouting and sealant. It really needed to be renewed but we do understand how difficult that can be in between leaving and arriving visitors with only a couple of hours in between. Better then for those time consuming jobs to be professionally tackled in the closed season, sufficiently well to last all through the following season."

"Wonderful location, beautiful cottage, very family friendly."
    Christine
"Lovely cottage in a pretty village. The location was ideal for exploring both countryside & coast. Two local pubs with good food. Cottage was very comfortable with everything on hand, it maybe needs a little bit of attention in the bathroom, but on the whole an enjoyable stay."
    Christine

    Nigel

"lovely cottage, shame the peace and quiet was spoilt by road works directly outside our windows. unavoidable I suppose, but we left for home a day earlier than planned ."

    Claire
    "Couldn't fault the place."
    Michaela
"Lovely cottage, location and owners very nice. Only let down was the fact that it was not very clean, the floor was dirty and covered in dog hair and the overall cleanliness was not great. Owners were very nice though and apologetic. "
    Paul
"I wrote in the guest book. As Mel Smith's version of Father Christmas said "Blooming Marvellous""
    Liz

"First visit to Yorkshire and most certainly will not be the last!We found the cottage was ideally placed to get around to the places which we had chosen to visit. Our trips to York we're made easy by using the park and ride which was convenient and good value.Yes!we will definetly be returning ,this time perhaps without the dog so that we can enjoy the places that we missed this time."
    Linda
"Great location and ideal for couple or small family. Great to be able to stroll to pub for fab food. Peaceful spot. Ducks sweet but messy! Some information about how things work in the cottage and perhaps some info re restaurants, places to visit etc would have been good. Overall very nice cottage. "
    Sarah
