About this property

Offering stunning views, including some spectacular sunsets, across Loch Ken and the surrounding countryside, situated in the small Stewartry village of Crossmichael, close to the sprawling wild beauty of Galloway Forest and Dark Sky Park.

The village of itself is a peaceful place complete with pub (The Thistle Inn) a village shop and marina but with the 'Food Town' of Castle Douglas less than a 10 minute drive away, all essentials can be taken care of within the local area. Also close by are the 'Artist Town' of Kirkcudbright, once home to Edward Atkinson Hornel, a founding member of the Glasgow Boy movement, and still popular with artists today, and the beautiful town of Gatehouse of Fleet located at the bottom of the Fleet Valley National Scenic Area and Cairnsmore of Fleet National Nature Reserve.

If walking is your thing, the Forest Park stretches over 300 square miles from seashore to mountaintop and provides routes for all tastes and capabilities. Twitchers and wildlife enthusiasts will be thrilled by the rich variety of animal life on show, from Red and Roe Deer, Red Kites and Squirrels, to Badgers and Otters, so don't forget the camera! Should you prefer a faster pace of life, the numerous trails of the 7Stanes Mountain Biking sites at Glentrool, Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie, Mabie and Forest of Ae are sure to satisfy, or why not try your hand at some water sports down at Galloway Activity Centre, just 10 minutes away from Crossmichael.

The area is also packed with history from Dumfries's connections with Robert Burns and J.M Barrie to Caerlaverock Castle, a moated triangular castle first built in the 13th century. A journey west along the A75 of approximately 1 hour will bring you to Wigtown, Scotland's National Book Town and home of Bladnoch Whisky Distillery, Scotland's most southerly distillery and, a little further still to Whithorn, an Historic Royal Burgh steeped in history with roots going back to early Christianity, both towns well worth a visit! Fishing in all its forms is available in the surrounding area, with Loch Ken being particularly good for coarse fishing and the River Nith for Salmon and Trout. Golfers will also be spoilt for choice with numerous courses including Colvend, Kirkcudbright, Castle Douglas and St Medans (Scotland's most southerly course) scattered across the region.

The views and proximity to Dumfries & Galloway's bustling market towns will be the real winner for any less active guests and, being laid out across one level, with handrails up into the property (6 steps at front, 4 at back) and a seat in the shower, the property really is ideal for the less mobile holiday maker.
