This property with large garden, summerhouse and cosy woodburner is surrounded by the Galloway Hills, with dramatic views towards the Solway Firth.
"Idyllically set on a 3000-acre estate:"
Enjoying an idyllic situation on the 3000-acre Crofts Estate, surrounded by the Galloway Hills, these holiday cottages have enviable, dramatic views towards the Solway Firth and Cumbrian Hills beyond. Accessed along a private drive, and adjoining a cluster of well-maintained estate buildings, Stable Cottage (ref UUD) makes a romantic hideaway for two, offering stylishly furnished accommodation – its walls adorned with the original work of various Scottish artists. The larger Victorian detached Gardener’s Cottage (ref UXT) has been elegantly furnished, and features an attractive shared garden with a bridge over a burn and a small waterfall. Arkland Mill (ref sttz) stands detached with a lovely large garden, a summerhouse and its own bridge over the stream. Marwhin House (swwr) and Marwhin Cottage (ref swws) also stand detached, situated within 25 yards of each other, still with there own privacy, the latter two properties being set in gardens with a delightful stream and pond. Woodland walks and hillside trails radiate from the doorstep. Dumfries lies just 12 miles away, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and museums, as well as a good theatre. Castle Douglas (8 miles) is a traditional market town with individual shops specialising in food and local produce. There are many beautiful beaches within easy reach along the Solway, and the National Trust Threave Gardens, 8 miles, makes for an interesting day out. Other tourist attractions in the area include the Galloway Kite Trail, the Galloway Forest Park and golf courses and museums in Dumfries. Village shop and pub within 4 miles.

"Our second time at Arkland Mill. This place is luxury to us . Comfortable, clean, cosy cottage . Great , peaceful location. We would definitely return and would highly recommend."
    Lisa – 16 Oct 2018
"Our holiday party consisted of four adults and one five week old baby. We were pleasantly surprised by the property, we all feel that the photographs do not do it the justice it deserves. It was comfortable and well equipped. The only equipment I would add would be a clothes airer for drying clothes indoors on wet days. Unfortunately the water filter was not working during our stay which made interesting work of feeding and bathing the baby but it did not spoil the holiday for us. The location is really peaceful but close enough to be able to reach a supermarket and a take away! Touring the area was fun. We usually visit the area twice a year to go walking but one of our party had just had a quite major surgery and this ruled out walking. We still found entertainment in the area every day to keep us happy. I would definitely recommend this property to friends and family."

"Ark land mill was a perfect location for us as we were touring the local mountain bike trail centres and was spot on, the mill is exceptional, can’t wait to book again"
    MURIEL – 24 Sep 2018
"This is very much an upmarket cottage, beautifully furnished and equipped to a high standard. Best of all, it doesn't matter what the weather throws at you, in our case Storm Ali, you will be comfortable in Arkland Mill with the Aga, full central heating and a wood burning stove.Situated on a 3,300 country estate you are free to roam from the front door, or simply enjoy the garden with a stream running through it ( be aware if you have small children), lawns, a summer house and barbecue. Just a few miles from Castle Douglas for shopping, Dumfries, Kirkcudbright and Kippford are within 30 mins. drive. Lots of other places to visit in area.We will be returning, maybe as soon as November. Thanks to Margaret for organising clearance of the trees brought down on the approach road during the Storm!"

"Superb cottage, roomy and comfortable, and quiet. No Wi-Fi, but that is one of its charms.Large garden for dogs. Highly recommended"
    Robin – 31 Jan 2018
"Arkland is a fantastic place to stay. Nestled away in its own little valley and with the stream running past, you couldn't ask for a more idyllic spot. The photos don't do the place justice, it has everything you need and more, the perfect place to escape and relax."
