The cottage has spacious living accommodation and a superb kitchen and dining area leading out to a patio with panoramic views over the adjoining area.The cottage makes an ideal base for exploring South West Scotland either by car, bike or on foot.
The Caerlaverock Wetland & Wildlife nature Reserve is only half a mile and is home to tens of thousands of geese in the winter months. There are pleasant walks from the Reserve to Caerlaverock Castle which has many events organised by Historic Scotland through the summer months, including enactments of battles and sieges which this principal castle of Dumfriesshire saw in its heyday in the 13th century. Excellent walks and biking routes are available in the Forestry Commission woodlands including the 7Stanes Routes the closest of which are at Mabie Forest and Ae Forest these routes provide trails for all abilities.
Outdoor pursuits for all are freely available including of course numerous golf courses so if you wish you can play a different course every day and for a challenge there is the championship Southerness Links Course. All types of fishing are available including taster sessions at activity centres such as Alderneuk, near Dumfries.
