Glencroft sleeping up to 4 guests

This is an ideal coastal property for a family wishing to discover the Rhins Peninsula with lighthouses and botanical gardens within easy reach.
Enjoying a wonderful setting just a mile from the sea, this detached cottage is situated on the edge of the picturesque town of Portpatrick and offers an ideal base from which to explore the surrounding area. Dumfries and Galloway boasts rugged coastlines and secluded sandy beaches which benefit from the warmth of the passing Gulf Stream. It is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, offering an ideal base from which to explore the Rhins and Machars Peninsulas and the Galloway Hills. Climb the steps of the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse and admire the stunning views from the top. Alternatively, Corsewall Lighthouse is ideal for lunches and meals in its restaurant.
The Southern Upland Way passes close by, with the challenging uplands of the Galloway Hills, gentle seaside trails, rolling moors and dramatic cliff-top walks, presenting the ideal focus from which to enjoy the many and varied shorter walks within the region. The dramatic scenery is home to a rich selection of flora and fauna, with many unusual species including pine martens, golden eagles, ospreys, red deer, red squirrels and the natterjack toad.
The area has many renowned gardens to visit including the Botanic Gardens in Port Logan. Wigtown, Scotland’s official book town, is also home to a charming gallery and excellent cafés, and is located only a few miles from Bladnoch Distillery, where visitors can sample the local malt whisky.
For fishermen, the area offers a wide variety of opportunities including sea fishing from Portpatrick, and both trout and salmon fishing close by. Other country pursuits are available including shooting and riding. Golfers will feel equally at home in this area with Stranraer, Portpatrick and Lagganmore golf courses within a 20-minute drive. Turnberry, with its world famous course, is only 45 minutes away and also offers a spa, off road driving, quad biking activities and restaurant facilities.
For the adventurous, there are numerous cycle routes set out in stunning Forestry Commission surroundings, and cycle hire is available at these centres. Sailing can be enjoyed via the local marina, and for those happy to travel slightly further afield, there is the Galloway Sailing Centre where visitors can also try windsurfing, canoeing and power boating. From Stranraer, 15 miles, there is the ferry service to Northern Ireland for a day trip. Beach 1 mile. Shop and restaurant 2½ miles, pub 2 miles.

    Thomas – 17 Nov 2018
"It was perfect for us we completely chilled out so quiet it was beyond what we expected the only downside was the double bed was too small for us as we are used with a super king bed that was it. We will be back in the future"
    Andy – 19 Oct 2018
    "It was nice"
    David – 30 Sep 2018
"A very comfortable cottage. Spacious and warm - well insulated. Well equipped.Only 2 miles from Port Patrick and not far from the main trunk roads."
    Anne – 19 Sep 2018
"Lovely cottage, ideal for walking and relaxing. Lovely garden for dogs, gardener could have said he had found a 'deposit' instead of spraying with red paint. Wasn't one of ours but cleared it up in interests of hygiene. Other than that no complaints."
    David – 5 Aug 2018
"The cottage is lovely and the information pack provided was excellent, with tips on finding local beaches which we would otherwise have missed. Wi-fi intermittent, but plenty of other entertainment provided."
    Anne – 23 Jul 2018
"really enjoyed our stay and had fantastic weather. Would have liked the table and chairs to have been nearer the patio area at the door out from the dinning area, One thing we did have a slight problem with was the blinds in the bedrooms because there was a roller blind and vertical blinds it meant we couldn't open the windows so the rooms got rather hot in the really hot weather we had."
    Jean – 22 Jul 2018
"Lovely clean modern house with large open garden, however, being a dog friendly property we were disappointed there was no enclosed area for the dogs."
    Rosemary – 24 Jun 2018
"Very comfortable cottage, lovely design. You do need a car, it is quite remote for us townies!"
    gillian – 14 May 2018
"Lovely cottage. Well situated and exactly what we were looking for. Cottage was very clean and well equipped. Garden was wonderful."
    John – 4 Apr 2018
