North Bank House is a truly outstanding holiday home in the far north of Scotland. Located in Lybster, the building dates to 1883 and was used as a bank for nearly a hundred years. Between the late 20th century, the building transformed into a Free Church Manse. The current owner has renovated the property to an exceptional standard and brings to market, an amazing place to stay in northern Scotland.

Situated just off the North Coast 500, North Bank House is a short drive from Wick, Thurso and John O’Groats. It’s an excellent base from which to tour the north and north east coastline of Caithness and Sutherland.

Day trips from North Bank House to Orkney are straightforward with the ferry from Gills Bay to St Margaret’s Hope being both very quick and regular year-round. You’ll have an awesome time exploring the far north of Scotland, strolling the cliffs at Duncansby Head, surfing at Melvich Beach, fly fishing the Helmsdale and Halladale rivers, exploring the many coastal castles perching over the sea and playing golf on hidden gem courses such as Reay, Wick, Brora and even Lybster’s tiny 9-hole course.

Whilst out adventuring these northern parts of the UK, you’ll always be looking forward to returning to North Bank House. It’s honestly a place you’ll wish you booked for longer - it’s that great!

The grand building with its attractive red door stands proud on the main street of Lybster. Entering the property there’s a large vestibule area for leaving coats and boots. The hallway gives you an immediate impression of the high standard of interiors.

You’re initially drawn through to living/TV room. Another theme is established once in this room, you’re going to be treated to some exquisite pieces of antique furniture throughout the property. The TV room is very comfortable and has automatic blinds to improve the naturally light space for watching movies. There is also an enormous room which used to be where the counters and tellers were in the 19th and early 20th century when the building operated as a bank. The room is now a games room and gym. There’s a full-size snooker table, a scaled down pool table and gym equipment: a jogging machine, bike and rower. This large room could also serve as a function room if required, it’s perfect for a small gathering. It has a separate entrance/exit too which is useful.

And finally, there’s a shower room. Up to the first floor and the landing is a striking space with rooftop windows flooding the area with light. It really shows off the amazing woven Italian wallpaper that’s another theme throughout the house. The first floor has four bedrooms, a reading room and a large family shower room.
