Chalbury sleeping up to 5 guests

This delightful semi-detached property is situated on the outskirts of the town of Caerleon near Newport. Built in the 1920s this property offers comfortable accommodation for a family or group of friends looking to explore the delights of South Wales. The gated driveway leads up steps from the parking area through a variety of lawned and seated areas, past two netted fish ponds to the front of the property. Traditionally furnished throughout this property has a porch area which leads through into a spacious lounge which has plenty of space for everyone to sit and relax in front of the warming woodburner-effect electric fire or to curl up with a good book on the window seat. From the sitting room the well-equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar and dining area where you can sit and chat over the day’s events. The children will enjoy the additional family room where they can spread out their toys and play without disturbing the adults. There is a separate utility room next to the kitchen with plenty of space for muddy footwear and a handy extra toilet. Open tread stairs from the hall lead upstairs to three pleasant bedrooms, one of which is zip/link for extra flexibility and the master king-size double has a lovely window seat overlooking the garden. A family bathroom completes the accommodation. The rear garden is lawned with plenty of space for the children to run off the last of their energy and there is a summerhouse for guests use. The town of Caerleon is close by with a range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Visit the nearby Roman fortress and baths to experience Roman Britain. The surrounding area has wonderful countryside to explore with scenic walks in the Wye Valley and Usk Valley. For those who enjoy shopping why not head to nearby Cardiff and spend a day on retail therapy or pop into Newport? If the weather is kind to you spend a day on one of the many glorious sandy beaches of South Wales. There really is something for everyone at this well-located cottage.

Caerleon is a suburban town and community situated on the River Usk on the outskirts of Newport in South Wales. Caerleon is well known for its Roman fortress and baths where visitors can experience Roman Britain in the second century. A walk up Christchurch provides panoramic views of the River Usk and Bristol. Celtic Manor Resort, where Europe won the Ryder Cup, is also close by and offers three championship golf courses, luxury spa and fitness facilities, excellent restaurants as well as lots of activities for all the family.

    Mrs Murray – 1 Nov 2018
"This is the best equipped and resourced holiday cottage we have ever been to. It’s warm, comfortable and very welcoming. We would highly recommend it. It has very quirky decor but is spotless and has a fabulous layout with lots of space inside and out!"
    Mr Taylor – 1 Jun 2018
"Great place at a good price. Only the two of us staying but lots of room for up to 5 and everything that you'd expect provided and lots more things that perhaps you wouldn't, such as all the odds and ends you might forget for the kitchen and even milk, a lovely bottle of wine and some fruit juice in the fridge. In fact, we kept finding things that would/could be useful, depending on the weather and who you had with you - games for kids and adults, DVDs and so on. Lovely garden too with lots of ..."
    Mr Price – 1 May 2018
"Cottage was very nice and as described on the website, the decor is largely from the 1970s but all very clean. The garden is lovely and when it gets too hot the summerhouse is a nice spot out of the direct sun. Caerleon is a 10 minute walk to pubs, restaurants and shops. The only disconcerting bit is walking along a narrow path into town when although supposedly in a 40mph and then 30mph limit road, vehicles hurtle into Caerleon at crazy speeds."
    Mr Appleyard – 1 Mar 2018
"from day one we were made very welcome and had no reason to fault it. It was by far the best we have ever had and recommend it to all,(apart from the weather it was realy Very good all round with a view we might return later in the year again thank you for your help in finding this one. Yours Joe (A)"
    Miss Crookes
"This is an exceptionally lovely house. Very comfortable and homely. Immaculately presented. If anything the photos and listing probably do not do it justice."
    Mr Taylor
"A lovely homely property with a super well kept garden. The property was kept very clean and we really appreciated this. It had all the equipment that we needed for our holiday eg iron, ironing board and a very well equipped kitchen. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and gave us good tips about interesting places to go. Also appreciated having different maps of the area to plan from, both of these showing where the property was."
    Mrs Nelson
"Beds were extremely comfortable. The home was more than what we hoped for and the owner Sheila was more than willing to accomodate our requests. This home is ideal for a family and it provides lots of alternative entertainment for the children on poor weather days. Great location and very well equipped. Highly recommended and when we come back to Wales we will definitely stay there again if we are able."
    - Mrs Kent, October 2018
    "Will book again next year"
    - Ms Man, October 2018
"Truly comfy home from home. Love the flow of the rooms, all the thoughtful touches. Many thanks to our host, Sheila for the lovely welcome pack even a delicious treat for our 8 years old Lab. Beautiful secure quiet garden even though it's on main street. Will definitely be back next year."
    - Mrs Wills, August 2018
"We stayed with our 3 young children and had everything we could possibly need. Milk in the fridge and some goodies on the counter when we arrived, games and puzzles for our children in the play room, children's books in both the kids bedrooms which my son in particular was thrilled with. There were also a selection of dvds with many suitable for our children to watch. We had plenty of space for our family of 5 and a huge garden for the children to play in. Thoughtful extras included a parasol for the picnic table, a rotary clothes line, umbrellas in the porch in case of rain and many more thoughtful extras such as maps, leaflets and local information. We had fantastic days out within half an hour including cardiff, castell coch, Caerphilly castle, big pit and St fagans museum. We also had lots of fun exploring the roman remains in caerleon. Sheila and Spencer were very welcoming and helpful when we first arrived. We cannot recommend this enough and are so pleased we booked. Many thanks."
    - Mrs Fakley, August 2018
"The gardens were beautiful and had plenty of places to sit outside with the family, it was also secure enough for our 2 dogs. Sheila was lovely and made us feel very welcome, she also left us a very nice welcoming basket which was a nice touch too. The cottage is located close enough to the village to walk to. You must do this as there's plenty to see and do and has lovely walks to the local pubs by the river Usk with beautiful scenery. I highly recommend staying here we had a wonderful ..."

"There's loads of room, the garden is lovely, beds are comfy, and our welcome was wonderful - wine, fresh bread rolls, Bara Brith (yum) and milk in the fridge. There's also a great selection of books (novels, reference books, kids books, games, DVDs and a good hi-fi system if you want to listen to music). It's within an easy walk of Caerleon where there are a great selection of pubs and restaurants. It's also not far from the M4 junction (5 minutes or so by car). We throughly enjoyed our stay!"

Lovely garden too with lots of little nooks, garden furniture, etc. The owners are really helpful and I can't praise them enough for their thoughtfulness in making sure that everything you might want is catered for. We loved it. And a small but interesting coincidence (for us) - 'Chalbury' was named after the place in Dorset where the original owner came from, just a few miles up the road from our home."

"BUT, people need to be aware that the drive is on a busy road and parking is not easy. There are then 4 large steps up to a rough path to the front door with 2 more steps into the porch. This would not in anyway be suitable for older people or people with walking problems. The path had loose slabs and was slippery, one of our party did slip. Coming back at night it was dark and we found it difficult, we had at least brought our own good torch. The people in the attached property were noisey."
    - Miss Malin, August 2019
"The cottage we stayed in was beautiful, spotless and had everything we needed and more. The cottage owners were lovely, could not have asked for a better first experience renting a holiday cottage."
