About this property

An attractive stone cottage on a quiet lane in Rhayader, "Gateway to the Elan Valley", well equipped and furnished to a high standard.

This traditional semi-detached stone cottage, retaining some beamed ceilings and feature stonework, is situated on a quiet side street close to the centre of Rhayader, the “Gateway to the Elan Valley”, with shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Just 100 metres down the lane is a small nature reserve and Riverside Walk along the River Wye.

Ty Mawr is a well-furnished property with three double bedrooms, making it ideal for couples or families with older children holidaying together. The cosy sitting room has a woodburning stove in a stone fireplace, comfortable sofas, flatscreen Sky TV and DVD player. The dining room has an oak dining table and chairs and an armchair with reading light. Two steps lead up to the good sized kitchen with farmhouse-style fitted units, electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and dishwasher. A tumble dryer is situated in the rear porch, which also provides access to a ground floor WC, and rear door to the enclosed courtyard with garden furniture and barbecue. Upstairs, the three bedrooms (a king size and two doubles) all have smart oak furniture. The family bathroom is spacious, with an electric shower over the bath, WC and washbasin. Heating in the property is mixed, with partial gas central heating, woodburning stove and freestanding electric heaters. Parking is on the street, usually possible immediately to the front of the cottage, but with plenty of other space nearby. There is no WiFi in the cottage, but 4G is available for mobile devices.

Rhayader is an excellent location for lovers of nature and the great outdoors.  The Gigrin Red Kite Feeding Station is less than a mile away. The Elan Valley Visitor Centre, just 3.5 miles, gives access to the Estate’s reservoirs, woodland and forest walks. The neighbouring town of Llandrindod Wells, 11 miles, is home to the National Cycle Museum, and Abbey Cwm Hir hall, museum and gardens just a little further. The Royal Welsh Showground at Llanelwedd and the town of Builth Wells are just 13 miles to the south. A picturesque drive of less than an hour will take you west to the coast at Aberystwyth, or south to the Cathedral town of Brecon, gateway to the Brecon Beacons National Park, and to the ‘book town’ of Hay-on-Wye. And at the end of a tiring day of touring or trekking, you can relax with a drink in the enclosed courtyard, which gets the evening sun.

Please note that this traditional stone cottage does have some changes of level, uneven floors and low doorways.
