About this Holiday Cottage
Cronk Darragh is a charming cottage dating from around 1861 and is set within one acre of private land in the Castletown area of the Isle of Man. Beautifully restored, the cottage is in an elevated position with impressive views across surrounding fields and the southern hills beyond. The property and location are perfect for walkers and amenities include an area of open garden with fruit trees where you can pick your own apples. Keen motorcyclists are ideally situated on the first corner of the Billown road race circuit which hosts the famous Southern 100 road race in the second week of July and the pre TT Classic road races at the end of May annually.
Living Space
This two storey Manx stone cottage has 3 bedrooms and sleeps up to 5 guests. The ground floor features mostly Karndean flooring and carpeting is on the first floor.
Comfortable and cosy sitting room furnished to a very high standard with a coal effect electric fire, chairs, a remote control flat-screen TV with Freeview and a DVD player.
Fitted kitchen/diner with an electric oven and hob, a fridge, freezer and a microwave oven.
The kitchen/ diner area also has an oil fired Esse very similar to an AGA which keeps the property warm and cosy and is lit 24/7, perfect for drying clothes or preparing stews ready for your return after days out. A small supplement of £15 per week applies for oil and running costs of the Esse.
A separate small utility room/ porch area contains a washing machine.
Bedrooms / Bathrooms
Three bedrooms all have stunning views.
Master bedroom - a double with a dressing table, linen chest, bedside tables, a wardrobe and a radio alarm clock.
Bedroom 2 - a twin with two 3ft single beds, a wardrobe, bedside tables and a dressing table.
Bedroom 3 - a single with a comfortable bed and a reading light, a small table, a wardrobe and views across surrounding fields.
Bedrooms share a small wc and wash basin.
The main bathroom is on the ground floor and contains a thermostatic shower and bath, a wash basin, wc and an electric shaving point, a bench and ample storage space.
Outside
Ample car parking is onsite and the cottage has a well established country garden with BBQ equipment supplied. The garden area contains fruit trees and guests are welcome to pick their own apples for cooking.
A lawned area and a selection of attractive flowers also feature in the garden along with a choice of relaxing seating areas.
Other Things to Note
Free WiFi internet access and a payphone are available and Cronk Darragh is family friendly with baby equipment including a cot, highchair and safety gate all available by prior request. Please ask for these when booking.
The cottage is strictly non-smoking. Prices are fully inclusive of electric and oil and a welcome basket with beverage essentials and local produce is available on arrival.
All bed linen plus bath and kitchen towels are supplied - please bring along your own beach towels. We provide a fresh set of bed linen weekly and general household essentials along with cleaning materials are available in the kitchen and laundry/ utility areas.
Availability
Arrival is from 3pm and departure is requested by 10am. Sorry no pets please.
Around and About
Castletown in the south of the Isle of Man is a perfect base from which to explore the island. Local activities include birdwatching, fishing, golf, horse riding and stunning Coastal and Glens walking. The island's famous motorsports including the TT are easily accessed and the airport is a short drive away.
Location/ Directions
Cronk Darragh is around 1 mile from Castletown and 2.6 miles from the fishing villages of Port Erin and Port St Mary.
The small village of Ballabeg is only 3/4 mile away and guests can pick up the Victorian steam railway from here running between Port Erin to Ballabeg Station in Douglas during the summer months.
The cottage is located on the junction of the A5 and A28, and you'll find two bus stops within 10 metres of the property along the main bus routes which serve Port Erin, Port St Mary and Douglas.
From the Ferry Service take a left at the roundabout when you exit the ferry terminal. Go straight over the next roundabout 50 yards further on. Exit Douglas and take a left at the roundabout at the Quarter bridge along the A5.
Continue on the A5 to Castletown past the airport. On arriving at Castletown turn right at the next two roundabouts signed for Port Erin. Continue along this road through a set of traffic lights for 1 mile until you reach the junction with the A28 signed Ballabeg. Take a right, then a left turn into the paved driveway of Cronk Darragh. Parking is available at the side of the garages.
From the airport take a left on to the A5 heading towards Castletown. On the approach to Castletown follow directions as above.
