About this property

Castello Cavica is a charming and comfortable Villa, located in the famous area of Val di Noto, cradle of the late-baroque art and architecture, more exactly in the land of Modica, city part of the Unesco world heritage site

The villa sits on a hillside overlooking the Cava d’Ispica, a cavernous natural canyon with important archaeological sites. The villa’s beautiful terraced gardens include a solarium, hot tub and swimming pool, all with amazing views. Enjoy peaceful walks and slow living in a rustic setting, but with all the comforts of modern life.

Built in 1954, the villa was restored and renovated using local stone and wood. Its 7 comfortable bedrooms can accommodate up to 16 guests (5 doubles, 2 triples). Each bedroom has a private bathroom, air conditioning, minibar and TV. The lounge, which also has a 43” LED TV, and dining area are connected to the fully equipped kitchen. Dine al fresco in the shade with a panoramic view.

You’ll have bicycles available to you for countryside rides. Nearby Modica (10 km) is famous for Aztec-style chocolate brought by the Spanish in the 16th century; try a minced beef-and-chocolate specialty or more traditional flavours as you explore the steep streets. You’re also close to the beaches at Pozzallo (16 km) or other southern coastal cities.

The location of Castello Cavica allows you easy access to the golden beaches of Pozzallo, Sampieri, S. Lorenzo, Cala Mosche, as well as the natural oisis of Vendicari and also the Southern extremity of Sicily with its sea town of Portopalo of Capo Passero (at a distance of about 15-35 Km).

From here it’s also easy to reach the charming baroque-cities of Ragusa, Scicli and Noto (at about 15-30 Km). Taking the highway you can also easily reach the cities of Siracusa and Catania. Given the location of the villa, it's advised to have your own means of transportation.

Interesting species of flora and fauna typical for the Mediterranean rupestral environment are largely represented in this area : no small wonder for you if it happens to see a peregrine falcon flying up in the sky or to meet a porcupine walking undisturbed between asparagus and wild fennel plants!

History
Castello Cavica was built in 1954 and was meant to provide decent life conditions to the countryside peasants which used to live inside the rocky caverns of the so called “Castello” even in the early post second world war period.

The background of this scenery is the famous cave, a majestic and picturesque valley characterized by the typical Mediterranean vegetation. The cave is an archaeological area sprinkled with various testimonies that sustain the continuity and the evolution of the human being during the centuries: prehistoric necropolises, christian catacombs, rupestral oratories and various dwellings.

Between the last ones, there is the aforementioned Castello, a residential complex, several storeys high, connected between them by interior steps cut in the walls, with cavities permitting the climbing.

My family and I really loved staying at this villa. It was beautifully appointed and in a fantastic location, lovely and quiet. There was sufficient space for everyone to relax and really handy as a base to explore Noto, Ragusa, etc. All furniture, fixtures, fittings and so on were comfortable, easy to use, and clean. Our party included an infant, so it was very kind of the owners to leave out a cot, high chair and some extra towels. A word on the owners. They really were fantastic, especially considering we asked for some extras (meal prepared by chef, some food items to be left on arrival). We felt very well looked after and in safe hands at all times. I would compliment them on their service, attentiveness, and on the layout and standard of the property. Hopefully we can stay there again in the future. We'd have no hesitation in recommend the villa to your other customers.
