In the hills high above Calheta beach in Madeira sits clifftop Casa Canico, a comfortable holiday home that offers plenty of space and a peaceful atmosphere to soak up. This villa boasts an impressive overall plot, with beautiful terraced gardens that lead down almost to the bottom of the clifftop and the sea.

Idyllic sea views can be enjoyed from the tastefully furnished main living space, as well as from several of the bedrooms. The décor and colour scheme used throughout the villa reflects its proximity to the sea, with restful marine and natural stone shades featuring in most rooms.

The accommodation at Casa Canico is spread across one spacious floor. At the heart of the villa is the living area with glass sliding doors that provide unspoilt sea views and open straight onto the lovely terrace. The living area features two large sofas and several armchairs for chilling out and watching the television or simply taking in the views. In the corner is an elegant dining table, with the kitchen conveniently located in the room next door. Spacious and well-equipped, this modern kitchen has every appliance you need for a comfortable stay. It also features a small table with chairs for quick breakfasts or chatting over drinks as dinner cooks.

There are four bedrooms in total, with each being of a good size and three of them having sea views. The master bedroom features a king-size bed and ensuite bathroom, with another bedroom also having a king-size bed that can be separated into two singles. The third bedroom has a double bed, and the fourth features two single beds and an ensuite shower room. There are also two family bathrooms for all guests to use.

The sea-facing terrace gives you the chance to both relax and enjoy al fresco meals, with outdoor seating, a dining table and a barbecue on offer. There’s also an area of lawn for the children to play. A path leads down to the one of the several garden terraces that Casa Canico boasts. Here you’ll find the kidney-shaped, private swimming pool that’s surrounded by sun loungers and an area with dining table and chairs and a barbecue. The most striking and famous feature in the area is the Christ the King statue that sits by Cristo Rei viewpoint, which provides almost panoramic sea views.

Plenty of shops and supermarkets can be found in Canico village, which is less than a five-minute drive from the villa. It’s a pretty place to spend a few hours, with a lovely main square and charming 18th-century church. You can even head high into the hills from here via the numerous streets.
