Find your bearings with a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Valley Railway there s a station less than half a mile away; steam towards inland fells or choose the sparkling coastline. Visit the Roman bathhouse museum in Ravenglass (6.5 miles), or Eskdale Mill (3 miles). Experienced hikers can take on England s highest peak Scafell Pike (9.5 miles), or enjoy gentler family fell walks and thrilling mountain bike descents through the surrounding valleys. Go wild swimming in the cool waters of the River Esk. And find pretty Japanese gardens with a beautiful arched footbridge in hilly Giggle Alley (0.5 miles). Step inside the hall porch of this wonderful cottage with traditional country style interiors and gentle pops of colour in restful hues. After a day of family cycles, lake swims or market town visits, the inviting living room is the place to gather and relax on cosy seating.
