About this property

Resting on a sleepy land on the edge of Grasmere village, you will find the tranquil holiday home, Holmdale. Set across three-floors, this spacious abode provides the ultimate setting for a family or group getaway to the Lake District, any time of the year! A large kitchen/diner exudes both charm and character having been beautifully-appointed with a farmhouse feel throughout, with gorgeous cream cabinets and a free-standing island, as well as housing all the essential appliances such as a spacious fridge/freezer and a handy electric oven and hob. The room also features a sociable dining space with a striking stone fireplace and multi-fuel stove, together providing the perfect space to entertain your nearest and dearest as you indulge in a scrumptious evening meal and exchange your most memorable moments from the holiday so far. Across the way, a snug sitting room hosting two good sofas and a traditional wood burner stove offers a homely setting ideal for those quiet evenings indoors, whilst the adjoining conservatory creates a light and airy space to enjoy a moment to yourself as you relax on the stylish corner sofa with a warm cup of tea and lose yourself in an enthralling novel. Make the most of warmer weather with afternoons spent lounging in the sunshine as you tuck into a lovingly prepared lunch out on the patio. Climb the staircase up to the first floor and be greeted by a wonderful king-size with a grand metal frame bed, ornate feature fireplace and a pretty floral chair from which to admire the breath-taking views of the encompassing fells. Completing the first floor, a well-designed bathroom featuring both a bath and a shower over, so that you can choose how to best prepare for the day ahead. A further set of stairs will lead you up to the second-floor, home to two additional bedrooms made up of a king-size and a twin with zip link bed (can be made as superking on request). Experience all that the Cumbrian Countryside has to offer with days spent touring the vast and luscious landscapes of Dunmail Raise Cairn and Pavey Ark. Head for the popular town of Bowness-on-Windermere where you can delight in a visit to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, or set about on a wonderful cruise along the lake itself. Cross the waters over to the west shore and embark on a scenic stroll to Wray Castle, an imposing 19th century fortress now owned by the National Trust, and see the former farmhouse of Beatrix Potter at Hill Top. Meet friendly Lama and Alpaca at Alpacaly Ever After over in Keswick, or hop in the car for a pleasant drive to the South Lakes Safari Zoo or the Lake District Wildlife Park. Swing through the skies at Treetop Lake District, or head out onto Conniston water with Water Park Lakeland Adventure Centre. With so much to see and do right from your doorstep, it’s no surprise that Holmdale is the ultimate choice for any type of holiday in the Lake District National Park

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

Really comfortable and well presented. Beautifully clean. Great location, just outside the bustle of Grasmere centre, but only a short walk away. Also really convenient for exploring the surrounding area. Parking fine for one large car (we managed to squeeze our VW van into the space). Bit tricky if you have a second car. There are some spaces at the side of the road just before you get to Pye Lane, but we did have to park further away to start with and move the car later in the day when it was less busy. We ended up leaving the car there for the week and just using the van to avoid losing our space (which was fine for us). All in all, very good accommodation and we would definitely stay again.

We like everything about the cottage - the convenient location, lovely views, excellent kitchen facilities, and tasteful decor. The new bathrooms and sofas make it even more luxurious and comfortable.

All the comfort of home and very cosy with a woodburner and underfloor heating. Love Grasmere in the winter months as much quieter with far less tourists and many more serious walkers. Being the centre of the Lake District it has excellent walks all around so you can leave the car at home and go explore. We will be back.
