About this property

Mount Sol is a comfortable detached bungalow located just 5 minutes’ walk from the centre of Ambleside at the peaceful lower slopes of Wansfell.

Enjoy the beautiful views over Ambleside to Loughrigg and the surrounding fells any time of the year. Sleeping 4 guests, this is the perfect retreat for a small family or ideal for two couple to relax and enjoy all the Lake District has to offer.

Set on one level, you will have everything you need for a comfortable stay in the Lake District. The open plan sitting room with dining area is airy, contemporary and a very sociable space to relax with friends with stunning views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and cook some tasty meals to enjoy al fresco in the rear garden area. There are two spacious double bedrooms, one boasting a king-size bed with an additional TV.

Ambleside is a beautiful place to take a break. The village centre is full of independent shops, bars and cafes and there are walks in almost every direction making it the perfect base for a walking holiday too. Just a stroll away from the centre is Waterhead pier where you can enjoy an afternoon on the shores of Lake Windermere from Wateredge Inn, alternatively hop onto a Lake Cruise and explore nearby Windermere and Lakeside.

This is a superb property to explore the heart of the Lakes from, whether you’re looking for a relaxed stay or a jam-packed hiking holiday.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

This was the only negative everything else was great.

The facilities were good with a lovely kitchen, however the property was let down by the interior decorations, it could do with being painted throughout.

Parking is good. Presentation was good albeit the decor is a bit stark, certainly not contemporary as listed. However, there was an old musty smell to welcome us as we opened the door - which wasn't great, possibly due to the old furniture in the place. We bought an air freshener for the Hall which helped, and on departure moved the dried up cottage ones around, hopefully for the benefit of the next guests. KITCHEN: No Washing-Up Bowl !! Main Oven does not work (we managed as the top oven does work). Kitchen Table is only useful as a dumping ground as the Kitchen is too small for it & the door has to be closed to sit down at it - so not practical at all; the main dining table is all you need. Some of the old crockery is chipped or cracked & Oven Trays are disgusting - all should all be replaced. LOUNGE/DINER: Dining Table good but the Chairs have lost their seat resistance so we had to use cushions as boosters. The Sofas are dated but most importantly not comfortable as you slip off the shiny leather. BEDROOMS: We only used the King - tatty bed frame, but the mattress gave a comfortable nights sleep. Pillows are old and unhealthily stained yellow - despite having protective covers on them they should be replaced and regularly checked - we used our car cushions instead of the top pillows. I left them exposed to the Cleaners so they could see them. We used to own a holiday let and replaced our pillows annually by default ! BATHROOM: modern in comparison to the rest of the house, but the central bath press-down-up plug made it difficult to keep the water from draining as every time you move it released the plug. Hubby looked at it after and found it to be loose so tightened the screw on it - didn't fancy a bath after that though just in case it hadn't fixed it. GENERAL: No Welcome Pack - never expected but most do leave some welcoming treats for their paying guests (we used to).
