About this property

This charming and comfortable two-bedroom Lakeland stone-built cottage is set in an elevated position with lovely westerly views towards Coniston Old Man and the Langdale Pikes. It is one of four attractive cottages that were formed from the late Victorian school, chapel and headmaster’s house at Troutbeck Bridge. It is situated in a peaceful setting, just a short stroll to a well-stocked shop and a pub.

Walk one mile or take a one stop bus ride to Brockhole, the National Park’s Visitor Centre. Here, try the exciting tree top adventure and zip wire, enjoy a drink on the terrace or take a cruise across beautiful Lake Windermere or to Ambleside. Walk from your doorstep to connect with one of the many stunning walking trails available in this gorgeous part of the world.

You are also perfectly placed to discover beautiful lakes, traditional Lakeland villages and gorgeous scenery on one of the many scenic drives through the Lake District

Go through your front door, take the few steps up into the hallway, hang up your outdoor clothes and go into your tastefully decorated sitting room with dining area. You are certain to like the two distinctive floor-to-ceiling, west facing windows and the French doors, which help to make this room so bright and cheerful. Sit and relax on the comfortable suite with your favourite drink and take in the original stone 'school room' fireplace and the cosy log burning stove. Go and find your modern fitted kitchen, prepare a bite to eat and enjoy it on your pretty patio garden while you plan your next day’s adventures.

Walk upstairs to your pretty bedrooms with beamed ceilings and attractive rooflines. The front double room has a deeply set feature window with spectacular views and an en-suite WC and basin. The rear bedroom is a comfortable cosy twin. The family bathroom has a bath with separate walk-in corner shower.

Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked with kitchen utensils, pots and crockery. The living room is very spacious but yet cosy with a fireplace. The property was incredibly clean and well maintained, towels and bedding were provided. The property has a lot of charm and character and sits in a wonderful location, with a stunning view from the front bedroom window. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience, we felt so comfortable and relaxed in the cottage and will certainly return to this little gem.

It has everything you could possibly need for a fantastic stay. Brilliant location and fabulous views, especially from the upstairs window. Counting down the days until next year.
