This charming Edwardian villa enjoys a secluded position, just outside Grasmere village, with stunning views over Rydal Water and to Loughrigg and Wansfell beyond. Dunnabeck retains its atmosphere as a family home with many personal touches and a comfortable feel, providing an excellent base for touring the whole of the Lakelands. Guests are assured of a peaceful setting in the heart of the National Park. Enter through the front door into the hallway before discovering the snug sitting room, boasting a wide bay window with panoramic lake view and fell views, as well as a Smart TV and an open fire to utilise in the winter. Move into the kitchen where a contemporary finish of units and integrated appliances is sure to encourage some home-cooking, while the separate dining room is the perfect place to sit down and enjoy meals amidst your loved ones. When it comes to getting some shuteye, there are four marvellously presented bedrooms to pick from, including the master king-size bedroom with en-suite shower, a double bedroom with views of Rydal Water, a smaller twin and a bunk room which is suitable for adults or your little ones. Each room is enhanced with comforting touches seen through the attractive antiques, many pictures and personal items, providing a real home-from-home feel. Continuing to impress, surrounding the property is two acres of extensive terrace grounds, consisting of natural rocky woodland with grand shrubs, trees and hidden pathways. This is a fine place for children to enjoy although too adventurous for little ones to be let loose without supervision. There is also a sheltered terrace and front lawn which offers a beautiful setting for outdoor relaxation even on colder days. From the door you won’t have to travel far to come across some fine walking routes, particularly the old ‘coffin road’ path from Grasmere to Rydal which links Wordsworth’s homes, Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount. Wordsworth once described Grasmere as “the loveliest spot man hath ever found” and when you view the surrounding landscape with its dramatic hills and luscious deep valleys, it's not hard to see why. If exploration takes you further then the attractions at Ambleside and Bowness are well-worth a visit, with the beauty of Lake Windermere just an easy drive away. Ideal for family getaways at any time of year, Dunnabeck has everything you could need in a self-catered holiday home.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
