Climb the steps up from the main lounge to find a super-king-size bedroom with zip-and-link beds that can also be made up as singles by prior discussion. The family bathroom and a bunk bedroom are also here. Ascend winding stone stairs to a king-size bedroom, which overlooks the open-plan living space and has an en-suite shower room. Explore the acres of grounds to your heart's content. Unwind in or beside the shepherd's hut next to the wildlife ponds over a BBQ or drink.

Plan an afternoon out to the National Trust's Fell Foot (6 miles) where you can walk, paddle and picnic. Take a cruise out on Lake Windermere from Lakeside (7 miles).
