Hawthorn Cottage in Ambleside is praised for its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and convenient location close to the lake and town. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the property's suitability for exploring the Lake District. Some concerns over road noise and parking space size are noted, but these do not detract from the overall positive experiences.
Guests consistently mention the property's cleanliness, with one minor point about a mouldy shower mat. The high level of cleanliness contributes positively to the guests' experiences.
The location is well-regarded for its proximity to the lake and town, despite some comments about road noise and the lack of a direct lake view. The convenience for exploring the area is a highlight.
The property is generally found to be comfortable, with comfortable beds and seating. Suggestions for improvements include better pillows and blackout blinds, but overall, comfort is satisfactory.
Facilities are deemed adequate with a few recommendations for additional kitchen utensils and a more secure rug in the living room. The parking space is noted to be tight for larger vehicles.

Hawthorn Cottage is an elegant Victorian property just 50 metres from the lake shore at Waterhead. With its solid oak floors, tasteful décor and modern fittings, this is a sophisticated choice for couples or family with older children. A short stroll and guests will arrive in the heart of cosmopolitan Ambleside, a vibrant village with boutique shops, renowned restaurants and quirky cinema with pizzeria and jazz bar. Stunning scenery to enjoy by day, and lively entertainment by night.
Outside the cottage is private parking for one car, and there is room for more nearby. The entrance hall leads guests through to a chic open plan living space with luxury furnishings, large picture window and super dining area. The kitchen itself is stocked with every appliance and utensil needed to prepare a delicious breakfast or gourmet supper. The whole ground floor is light, airy and welcoming.
Stairs lead to the first floor and two superb double bedrooms. The luxurious house bathroom is fashionably tiled with his and hers basins, wc and modern shower over the bath. The perfect spot for relaxing after a day on the water.
When it comes to walking routes and outdoor enthusiasts, the location could not be better. Grasmere, Rydall and Loughrigg lie in one direction, Hawkshead, Tarn Hows and Coniston in another. The District National Park at Brockhole is only a short drive in the direction of Windermere. With so much on offer, guests are sure to return.
Lying at the northern tip of Lake Windermere, England’s largest lake, Ambleside makes a superb base for touring the central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away. There is plenty to do here - cruises, boat trips and watersports on Lake Windermere itself and numerous shops, restaurants and pubs in the village to suit all tastes. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland offers lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach, whilst a walk in the other direction, following Stock Ghyll through woodland, will bring you to the entrancing waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force. Along with the Lake and the great walking on offer, Ambleside is also famous for its annual rushbearing ceremony and the diminutive 17th century “Bridge House” - one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District and now the National Trust Information Centre.
