Hexham, with its stately abbey, and Durham, with its magnificent cathedral, are also within driving distance of Gainford, as are the ruins of Egglestone Abbey and Rokeby Hall; High Force; the Cauldron's Snout; Derwent Reservoir; and Hexham. You can easily drive to Whitby and Saltburn, as well as the nearby Yorkshire Dales National Park, North York Moors, Lake District, and Northumberland National Park.
