It’s located within easy walking distance to the great choice of restaurants and pubs in this friendly small fishing town. Visitors are sure of a warm, friendly welcome in and around the town. Amble has a bustling little Sunday market down on the working harbour, popular with locals and visitors and set by the little shopping pods in this harbour village.

Boat trips can be taken over to Coquet Island to see the bird sanctuary. Amble also has a few pretty beach huts available to rent for a modest sum, a perfect little treat and adventure should you bring children with you. Amble is at the start of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which stretches for miles along the rugged coastline with golden sandy beaches and historic castles. Make time to visit Alnwick Castle, a must for Harry Potter fans, as the castle was used in the films. If you like a coastal stroll, then head north to Warkworth, a picture-postcard village, dominated by the castle ruins sat at the top overlooking the village. With a couple of lovely cafés and pubs, it’s a lovely walk along the estuary on a sunny morning.

A day trip up to Lindisfarne, also known as Holy Island, shouldn’t be missed, catching the right tide over the causeway is a great experience at any time of year. Nearby Alnmouth station is a stop-off for the east coat rail to Edinburgh, York or Newcastle and you can be in Edinburgh in an hour from here, leaving your car behind for a great day trip, particularly lovely close to Christmas when you can see the festive market and big wheel. Northumberland is such a diverse county with beautiful coastal villages and towns and inland rugged moors and hills, winner of the ’2018 Best Place to Holiday’ by the British Tourism Awards.
