Don’t forget your bucket and spade as this delightful mid-terraced house is close to the beautiful beach with rockpools for the children to explore. With stunning views straight out to the sea and the pretty bay in Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Holmlea By The Sea is situated at the west end of the village and only a few steps down to the promenade. Relax on the patio and watch the sailing boats out at sea or if you are lucky take in a lovely sunrise. Walk only a few yards down to the beach or meander along to the end of the bay where you will find the Maritime Centre, home to a small museum and good café with small gift shop. Rock pooling when the tide is out is a favourite with the children or flying kites along the beach. The bay is the home to the only east coast statues sat in the bay and can be seen clearly from the bay window.
Once a thriving fishing village, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea now only has a few Coble boats going to sea and you can see them kept by the Lifeboat Station. The village has a friendly butcher, fruit shop, bakeries, supermarket, takeaways, Italian and Indian restaurants and a few pubs, some with music and a small craft ale bar. In the middle of the promenade is a family run ice cream parlour housed in a listed building owned by the same Italian family for generations. The local bus is nearby where you can literally hop on and off in Newcastle or Morpeth.
Morpeth is only 9 miles away and has some lovely shops, pubs and restaurants while Newcastle is great to visit for a day looking at the architecture and some of the old buildings along Grey Street or on the Quayside. The famous castle in Alnwick is around 25 miles away, famed for the Harry Potter scenes and the town still has cobbled streets and plenty of history to explore. Drive up the Northumberland Heritage Coast where there are lots of castles to see and friendly villages to visit. Holmlea is near a great road network making travelling around this diverse county, voted the best place to holiday in the UK 2018 British Tourism Awards. Beach 150 yards. Shop 250 yards, pub 500 yards and restaurant ¾ mile.
