As you approach the village, the amazing vision of Penshaw Monument comes into view and driving down to the cottage the Riverside opens up before you. In front of the house is the Heritage site of the Alice Well dating back to the 19th century. Otters and seals can often be seen and activities are many – canoeing, sailing, fishing and riverside paths for cycling and walking or take your deck chair and bucket and spade to enjoy a day at the beach!

Enjoy a loop around the river crossing the nearby footbridge and visit one of the village pubs en route. Popular landmarks are within easy reach, Victoria Viaduct, Hylton Castle and the popular Sunderland coastal resorts and sandy beaches at Roker, Seaburn and Whitburn.
