About this property

Wigton 2.7 miles. Resting on the outskirts of the market town of Wigton is Lands Brow Lodge, a contemporary, single-storey annexe. Enjoying a rural position, just a short journey from the Lake District National Park and Solway Coast, Lands Brow Lodge offers a romantic retreat for a couple, looking to explore this delightful region. Benefit from off-road parking before making your way indoors, to be welcomed by the open-plan living area. Use this space to relax after a day of fell walking, to prepare delicious meals, and to dine, with the woodburning stove roaring in the backdrop. If the weather allows it, head outdoors to take in your serene setting, ready to dine alfresco upon the patio, before retiring indoors to catch some rest from the plush double bed. Awaken to a refreshing shower in the sleek shower room, before making your way into the surrounding areas to dine out, stock up on the essentials, or simply enjoy a tipple in the sunshine. Within proximity of Lands Brow Lodge, locate the traditional fell villages of Caldbeck, Ireby and Uldale, recommended landscapes for outdoor enthusiasts, perfect for hiking, exploring and bird watching, whilst the cathedral city of Carlisle can be reached by car, brimming with culture, magnificent landmarks, and plenty of amenities; be sure to tour Carlisle Castle and Carlisle Cathedral, ahead of a stroll through Bitts Park along River Eden. Hadrians Wall walks and museum can be reached just a little further on. Travel into the Lakelands, firstly reaching the breath-taking surroundings of Bassenthwaite Lake National Nature Reserve, where you can also summit Skiddaw, or take in the grandeur of Mirehouse & Gardens, before continuing to Keswick, for an afternoon of watersports upon Derwentwater. Escape to the Cumbrian countryside at Lands Brow Lodge.

A traditional Cumbrian market town with a charter granted in 1262, which still holds a market each Friday in the covered market hall, along with an open air car boot sale. Wigton is a popular centre for shopping, pubs and restaurants, and also boasts a theatre, bowls, swimming, tennis and other sports. Lord Melvyn Bragg was a native of Wigton, and used the town (called Thurston in some of his writings) and the surrounding area as the setting for his novels including ‘A Time to Dance’. Located 18 miles from Penrith it is a good base for the attractions of the North Lakes, the cathedral city of Carlisle, 12 miles away, Keswick, just north Derwentwater and close to Lake Bassenthwaite, and the natural beauty of the West Cumbrian Coast. Hadrian’s Wall is within 25 miles, while the Scottish Borders, and Gretna Green, are within easy reach.
