About this property

Resting in the upper reaches of the village of Ireleth and adjoining to the coastal town of Askam-in-Furness in Cumbria, is Roanview Cottage. This wonderful end-terrace holiday home offers on-street parking, stunning sea views and a proximity to the town's beach, making this a fabulous setting for families looking to escape to Cumbria’s coast. Roanview Cottage also lies within a stone’s throw of the scenic splendour of the nearby lakes, mountains, and lush valleys of the Lake District National Park. After a day spent on the Duddon Estuary with its breath-taking views and sandy beaches, by the sea, snuggle up with the kids on the sofa while the woodburning stove provides a gentle glow and your partner rustles up a hearty meal in the fully-equipped kitchen. Gather the family around the table in the dining room and tuck in before stepping outside to your private terrace where you can soak up the last of the sun with your favourite drink in hand. When sleep calls, head upstairs for some well-earned rest; the first floor houses a fun twin room for the kids and two spacious doubles with plenty of storage and feature fireplaces, all serviced by a sleek bathroom with freestanding, claw foot bath, the perfect place for a soothing soak. Roanview Cottage lies just paces away from the local shop full of essentials to ease your self-catered stay. Characterful and charming country pubs are never too far away, including the Black Dog Inn, Railway Inn, and the Ship Inn in Kirkby-in-Furness. Askam beach is also nearby and is an idyllic place to spend a sunny day or go for a long walk to Dunnerholme Head which, uniquely, houses one of the golf tees on this stunningly set golf course. The National Trust’s Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve is a beautiful location for walks along the dunes and keen ramblers can also head to the nearby Lake District which is bursting at the seams with walks and trails designed to be explored. The national park is also home to attractions such as Hill Top, Beatrix Potter’s 17th-century cottage, Wray Castle and a variety of water sports are available on Lake Windermere and Coniston Water. History lovers can take a short scenic drive south to Dalton Castle, Conishead Priory, and Furness Abbey where the expansive medieval ruins can be explored. The historic, charming market town of Ulverston (birthplace of Stan Laurel) and famous for its landmark monument ‘The Hoad’ is only a few miles away with its abundant cafés, restaurants, many pubs, and arty boutique shops. Also at proximity is the larger town of Barrow-in-Furness with the Dock Museum, the wilderness of Walney Island adjacent the town, and two golf courses where you can test your swing. Choose Roanview Cottage as the setting for your next seaside and country escape in Cumbria and the Lake District.

Askam-in-Furness, a civil parish located on the Duddon Estuary between Kirkby-in-Furness and Barrow-in-Furness, is often referred to as "the gateway to the Western Lakes and the Coast." Askam and Ireleth, the two villages that make up the settlement, are located close to the Sandscale Haws National Nature Reserve and the Lake District National Park. Other nearby attractions include the South Lakes Safari Zoo and the Dunnerholme Golf Club. You can get a refreshing drink at any of the local watering holes, including the historic London House, which serves traditional ale, and the trendy Black Dog Inn, where you can get the best burgers in town on Friday nights. Within the community itself is a convenience store, from which residents can acquire food staples for preparing their own meals. Barrow-in-Furness, a thriving town not far away, is home to two great golf courses, the intriguing Dock Museum, and the North Walney Nature Reserve, where you can visit a Seal Sanctuary and get up close and personal with the local wildlife.

We LOVED staying there, it really felt like home. A beautiful location close to a little shop, beach and village with everything we needed. Close to LOTS of different places to explore, there’s certainly plenty to do, whether you want to walk, visit little towns - the perfect location. The owner couldn’t have been better! Overall a truly wonderful experience - we would DEFINITELY stay there again!

The property had all the facilities you would expect, plus some lovely welcoming touches. Having a quality piano and sheet music in the house was particularly welcome, and Anthony was a great host - he answered all our queries really promptly. Highly recommended!
