About this property

Flourishes of country style merge with modern amenities and décor to create this tasteful, newly refurbished cottage in the peaceful village of Casterton. This detached property boasts a pretty garden, period features and plenty of space for up to eight guests to relax and unwind in the stunning Cumbrian countryside.

Through the gate, surrounded by blossoming plants and flowers, is the Apple Pie Cottage, whose welcoming entrance hall invites guests inside with flagstone flooring, tasteful décor and cosy spaces. Choose between the squishy sofas of the snug room to relax in the evening for a cosy night in with a bottle of red and a warm log-burning stove crackling in the background, or a further lounge complete with Smart TV, WiFi and Alexa for a family movie night.

On a sunny day, throw open the kitchen doors that lead to the gardens outside, and enjoy a breakfast coffee on the island seating, or in the evenings, head outside to enjoy the birdsong and dying light of the day with a glass of wine. The kitchen is equipped with all you need to cook up a delicious dinner using local ingredients and served in the lovely dining area, with soft leather seats to settle in for an evening shooting the breeze.

The sleeping accommodation is spread across four thoughtfully designed bedrooms with authentic feature fireplaces, soft furnishings and bed linen and towels provided. A super-king bedroom with en-suite, two king bedrooms and a twin bedroom and a lovely family bathroom provide charming places to enjoy a fantastic night’s sleep with country views and the tranquil peace of the countryside setting.

Step out into the stunning landscaped gardens that boast far-reaching views of the local countryside, local farm animals and birdlife. Take a seat on the outdoor furniture provided and drink in the scene with a glass of wine or a morning cup of tea.

With private parking for up to three cars and a private fenced garden, Apple Pie Cottage is every bit as convenient as it is idyllic.

Set within the peaceful village of Casterton, with the bustling Kirkby Lonsdale just five minutes away, the cottage is perfectly placed to explore the local shops and restaurants but also to get out in nature and enjoy all the spectacular countryside from the neighbouring Lake District to the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Arnside and Silverdale.

There is so much to explore in the beautiful Cumbrian landscape, with bike trails, hikes and endless historical, cultural spots to visit.   Casterton has its own 9-hole golf course for those keen for a round set in the beautiful scenery and topped off with a local pint at the Pheasant Inn, a lovely local pub.   The town of Kirkby Lonsdale is a half-hour walk (or a five-minute drive away), where you can roam the independent shops and restaurants. There you will find a delightful nature trail at Devil’s Bridge which leads you to a breathtaking 300ft Mynach waterfall.

Just a short drive from the cottage is the National Trust’s Sizergh Castle, with 1600 acres of estate grounds to roam, including ancient woodlands, wetlands and wildflowers. Along with a great on-site café, why not take the family to the wild play area and try your hand at climbing walls, balance beams and rope swings or take a tour of the Medieval manor where you will see the spectacular tower bedrooms with historic Inlaid Chamber.

Take a trip to the Yorkshire Dales National Park to take in the breathtaking limestone scenery, sweeping valleys, waterfalls and ancient woodlands. Grab a pair of hiking boots and take one of the many trails to explore the area to its fullest.

A visit should not go by without a trip to the Lake District, with its most famous spot Windermere, under an hour away. There are activities to keep everyone busy, including sailing, horse-riding, kayaking and hill walking. Choose from taking in the stunning Lake Windermere by air or water, from a breathtaking Gyroplane experience to a relaxing ride on one of the many steamers available at the pier at Bowness-on-Windermere. Or stay on dry land and hire a local bike and enjoy some of the western shore cycling routes of Windermere and Grizedale Forest, which are particularly good for family-friendly routes.

For a trip to the beach, Morecambe Bay is well worth a visit, just thirty-five minutes in the car, with a sweeping coastline and views of the spectacular Lakeland Mountains, a perfect spot to sit on the promenade with fish and chips and take in the view.

Afternoon tea can be taken at the iconic Midland Hotel for delicious cakes and sandwiches, and it would be rude not to take a photo opportunity at the statue of a funny man and local hero Eric Morecombe found on the promenade.

The beautiful nearby area of Arnside and Silverdale offers endless opportunities to get out and explore the outdoors. Heralded as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, take a drive to Arnside to access the Information Centre that will lead you to the best walks, cycle routes and spots to enjoy the wealth of wildlife, superb walks and stunning scenery.
