About this property

An outstanding, stone-built converted barn set in lovely grounds, on the site of the owners' home, in the village of Melling, six miles from Kirkby Lonsdale. This beautiful holiday retreat has been fully renovated by the existing owners to a very high standard making it perfect for a romantic getaway. With character and charm throughout, the current owners have planned the interior design to both reflect the historical nature of the old barn and create a contemporary feel throughout. The ground floor consists of a magnificent open plan living area with cosy sitting area, a lovely woodburning stove, bespoke fitted kitchen and a small dining area, all with pretty views of the garden and attached meadow. A useful cloakroom and spacious entrance hall completes the ground floor. Upstairs a modern bathroom is a real delight with a bath, walk-in shower and contemporary fittings, as well as the main bedroom having much character and charm with a lovely wooden beam being the centrepiece of the room along with two Velux windows bathing the room in lovely bright light. The king-size bed is situated in just the right position to take advantage of the floor to ceiling windows and guests can sit in bed with a morning cuppa and watch the sheep grazing in the attached meadow. Patio doors lead out onto a smart decked area providing a great place to sit out and enjoy an evening meal, a few drinks and take in the lovely countryside. Melling is situated in the Lune Valley, between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales with many walks from the doorstep. The market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is close by with an eclectic mix of tearooms, pubs and small independent shops to be explored. A few miles to the south lies the Forest of Bowland, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its beautiful countryside, amazing wildlife and cultural heritage. With a luxury feel throughout, Old Crow Trees Barn makes an ideal romantic retreat at any time of the year.

The quiet village of Melling, in the lovely Lune Valley, is bordered by the famous Lake District to the north, and the Yorkshire Dales to the east. A delightful village situated close to where the River Wenning joins the River Lune. Nearby Hornby Castle is set on a high hill overlooking the river. Consisting of a scattering of traditional stone built houses, a beautiful Norman church and several 'undiscovered' quiet walks around the village and other, more frequented walks and places of interest close by.

The barn is tastefully decorated and furnished. It is spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The kitchen has the bonus of lots of cupboard space and a large fridge freezer - something sadly lacking in so many holiday rentals. We had a very wet week, but were warm and cosy with the central heating and wood burning stove. There was a welcome pack of tea, coffee, fresh milk, a bottle of Pinot Grigio and some delicious biscuits - all much appreciated. Pam, the owner, popped round to check everything was OK and was quick to respond to any queries. Ingleton Waterfalls Trail (a few miles down the road) is a must and there’s lots to see the nearby town of Kirkby Lonsdale. There was a scenic 3-4 mile circular walk straight from the barn, which took in green lanes, river banks, fields and woodland, though wellies were a must for this! We would highly recommend Old Crow Trees Barn for anyone wanting to explore the Lune Valley.

Very clean and plenty of room. Quiet and secluded, very peaceful. Plenty of places to visit - Forest of Bowland, Ribblesdale, Blackwell House, Haworth House, Lancaster Museum, The Coast……… We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

There is everything you would need, and very comfortable. The very friendly owners have got this just right. Would definitely recommend this cottage.
