Explore the nearby Carsington Water and the High Peak Trail where rock climbing and cycling can be enjoyed at every level. Well Dressing is unique to Derbyshire, and the nearby market town of Wirksworth combines this tradition with lively carnivals. The beautiful Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are within easy reach of this Middleton cottage, as well as Matlock Bath, with its spectacular cable car rides, the newly-restored Ecclesbourne Valley Railway, and Gulliver's Kingdom. The former quarry and lead mining village of Middleton is set on a prominent hillside above the nearby towns of Wirksworth and Cromford, just eight miles from the popular destination of Matlock. The village layout is composed of a long main street leading into nearby Wirksworth, which is home to a village shop and a good local pub. The surrounding countryside offers wonderful walking and cycling routes throughout the region, with the disused High Peak Railway line close by recently converted into a path known as the High Peak Cycle Trail. The nearby town of Matlock provides a good range of shops and pubs, whilst the many National Trust properties and museums throughout the area are not to be missed.
