Rudyard Kipling, born in 1865 went on to become a world renowned poet, novelist and short story writer. As well as this fateful lake, the Staffordshire village boasts excellent picnic spots, boating, walking and fishing opportunities as well as the steam railway. Off the beaten path. So peaceful and quiet. We wanted somewhere close to family in Macclesfield but were looking for somewhere self-catering and peaceful - and this ticked all the boxes! So much better than a hotel stay. The cottage was really well appointed with all you could wish for in the kitchen and elsewhere. Nice and comfortable. Spacious. A selection of DVD's and games. Good selection of books about the Staffordshire area. LOTS of visitor attraction information in a folder to help plan days out. Very convenient for Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire. Liz, the owner, was there to meet us on arrival and she was lovely and welcoming, explaining all we needed to know to enjoy our stay at Wren Cottage. Good heating system for the one nippy night we had during our stay. We didn't use it, but there was a patio area with table out the back. Site felt secure. Parking just outside cottage. No road noise nearby. Very pleased with our stay and we would definitely stay here again.

It was perfect for our weekend - attending a family wedding just along the road at Heaton House. The property was warm, clean and well equipped. Comfy beds, towels and even toiletries provided if you’d forgotten them! It is an active little community - in the heart of such a friendly family. We were welcomed and I am sure, if we needed anything (we didn’t) or any advice about the area not to mention appreciating the horses, ducks etc on the site, it would have been happily given. Liz was so friendly and did not mind our late arrival after hold ups on the motorway. It is an area of the country we don’t know but would love to explore more - the walking guides in the house had so many tempting walks! Highly recommend for dog free couples and families with small children. Thank you for a great stay.
