About this property

This stunning, 300-year-old, detached cottage sits within walking distance of the sea in the coastal village of Barton-on-Sea. Boasting contemporary fixtures and fittings with a well-maintained, enclosed garden, The Old Cottage provides an exceptional base for a family and their canine companion looking to escape to the south coast. After a day on the beach, freshen up in the family bathroom, choosing between a bath or shower over, before heading to the kitchen to cook up a storm. Fitted with a contemporary range of appliances and quartz worktops, here you’ll have everything on hand to assist with home-cooking, whilst the dining area sits within the living space and seats up to eight guests. Afterwards, slump on the corner sofa and watch a film from the Smart TV. Those balmy evenings should be spent within the enclosed lawned garden, home to a set of table and chairs which is perfect for alfresco dining. As the evening comes to a close, venture upstairs and discover three tastefully furnished bedrooms, including two king-size rooms and a TV, whilst there is a double on the ground-floor, ideal for those with limited mobility. Within a mile there is a wealth of amenities, ranging from independent shops to pubs and restaurants, not forgetting the magnificent beach where you can paddle in the shores and bath on the sand. Head to the New Forest National Park for scenic rambles, boasting picturesque landscapes, open moor and fantastic wildlife including the famous New Forest ponies. Why not head out for a day to the Isle of Wight, easily accessible with ferries running from Lymington, which is just a short drive away. Escape to the South of England with a stay at The Old Cottage.

Only 5.5 miles south of Christchurch, on the south coast, lies the clifftop village of Barton on Sea, which is adjacent to the busy town of New Milton. Located near the eastern tip of Christchurch Bay, Hurst Castle is visible to the east, Christchurch, and Hengistbury Head to the west. There are also stunning views across the Solent towards 'The Needles' on the western tip of the Isle of Wight. In the direction of Lymington, where you can board one of the frequent ferries to the Isle of Wight, the seaside route meanders beside the neighbourhood golf course. Visit the National Motor Museum or the breathtaking gardens at Exbury, and explore the lovely New Forest National Park with its wild ponies and charming villages. The award-winning beaches, vibrant shopping district, theatres, and restaurants of the cosmopolitan seaside resort of Bournemouth are a must-see during any trip to this region. You can also visit the charming riverside town of Christchurch or the surfer-friendly Avon Beach at nearby Highcliffe. There is always a lot to do that is suitable for all ages, regardless of the time of year you come.

Very good location and overall condition but there is no mirror in the downstairs shower, no hangers and too little wardrobe space. We had to wash the cutlery/glassware, etc before using them and the oven was badly stained from previous usage. The front door was difficult to open and close- reported this to the owner. Instructions on how to use the heating, et cetera would’ve been useful and there was no details of local restaurants or attractions which would have been most helpful.

The rooms are all warm and cosy, the decor was just to our taste. Our only minor gripe, which we're sure is relatively easy to remedy, was the front wooden door, which is sticking in the frame at the bottom making it very difficult to open and close. Great walks on the cliff tops and the nearby Cliff House highly recommended for fab service and food. Overall a great experience and a welcoming stay either for a large or a smaller party. Our dog Evie settled well and there's even a park for exercise just down the path running by the end of the road which leads to the cottage.

House was lovely, clean and very comfortable. The beds and pillows were amazing. Complimentary Prosecco, team coffee etc. short walk to Cliff top ( lovely walk ) with a nice pub with live music.
