Set within the owner’s grounds down a privately owned track, The Old Boat Store offers a relaxing retreat for couples and is located in the valley between the West High Downs and Headon Warren. With fantastic coastal walks and beaches along the Heritage Coastline, virtually on your doorstep, this detached property makes a perfect base to explore West Wight and the rest of the island, especially for walkers and cyclists. The Highdown Inn is only a short stroll away offering a selection of beers, wines, spirits and locally sourced seafood and local produce. There is also a convenient farm shop at Stoats Farm along the lane that sells local produce and even ice creams ( very handy after a walk on the downs) or why not try a cup of their island roasted coffee to take away or enjoy on site. There are also four beautiful bays only a short drive away, Totland, Colwell, Alum, and Freshwater Bay. Totland Bay is only about ¾ mile away offering ’The Turf Walk’ and The Waterfront Bar and Restaurant. Here you can enjoy the most stunning scenery, lovely beaches and amazing sunsets, and you can walk from Totland Bay to Colwell Bay along the promenade. Alum Bay with its famous multi-coloured sands is only a short drive and offers The Needles Landmark Attraction and Alum Bay Glass. Freshwater Bay, about 2 miles, is one of the most picturesque beaches in West Wight and lies just to the south of the village of Freshwater. Smugglers once used the caves around the bottom of the chalk cliffs that are exposed at low tide – if you wish to explore them it is best to find a local guide as you can become cut off by the tide. Kayaking is the ideal way to see them and the other small bays, Watcombe and Scratchells. Freshwater beach is popular for surfing and water sports. You will often see boats moor offshore to come ashore here.
The Yar River that runs from Freshwater Bay to Yarmouth has a scenic walk and cycle route along the causeway. Explore, relax and enjoy. Restaurant ¾ miles, shop and pub 200 yards.
