The largest village in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Old Windsor, was the home of Edward the Confessor and the oldest Saxon town in Berkshire. It is located next to the River Thames. The majority of Windsor Great Park, including The Savill Garden, Virginia Water, The Valley Gardens, The Long Walk, and The Deer Park, is contained within its limits. There are several excellent pubs in the area that serve delicious food, and the Windsor Farm Shop, located on the outskirts of the hamlet, has a variety of goods from the Royal Farms and small, local specialty vendors. Three miles from nearby Windsor, home to a castle and the British Royal Family, are the attractions of legoland, Thorpe Park, and Ascot Racecourse.

The quality of the bed linen was also lower than expected. The so called ‘well equipped’ kitchen needs considerably more mugs, 6 mugs is not sufficient. There was one cheap, very poor quality set of kitchen utensils that bent when you tried to use them. Only one bin liner was provided and inside the bin was filthy. These issues are so easily fixed and would result in a more positive review. As things stand we would not return.

The house and garden were great although both properties in building have access to the same garden - luckily other house didn't use it. The kitchen had a lot of pans but need a couple of larger ones and maybe a couple of casserole dishes along with scales and a measuring jug (struggled to use cup measurements). On the day we left, after torrential rain, noticed a leak in small room at the back labelled office - notified Sykes and left note for cleaners but no reply from Sykes. As said before we had a great Christmas at the house and were very comfortable. Will definitely hire again as ideal for us and central for 3 parts of the family to meet up to spend time together.

However, the configuration of the house makes it difficult for anyone such as myself who has mobility issues. The front door is lower than the drive with steps leading down to it with no handrail. The bathroom is on a half landing with no handrails on the steps from the bedrooms which have narrow doors that do not fully open. The double bed is also very low. The kitchen is clean and appliances are new. Crockery and cutlery were sparse but adequate. Equipment for cooking was virtually non existent consisting of pots and pans which we were unable to use as the non scratch surface had been scratched right down to the metal and very little else, no mixing bowls, jugs, casseroles, baking dishes. A few additions to the house would make this a lovely place to stay.
