Relax in style in this superb, contemporary property with glorious views over the river both inside and out. Within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants and seafront, this delightful cottage is perfectly located for a break in the picturesque town of Fowey. Sleeping six guests across three bedrooms and with a superb open-plan living area, it is ideal for a family or group of friends seeking a seaside break in beautiful Cornwall.
Sat on a hillside just 100 metres from the river, Fowey River Cottage welcomes guests in on the lower ground floor, where they will find two of the three lovely bedrooms. The double room has an attractive wrought-iron bed and is tastefully yet simply decorated in soft, welcoming tones. The twin room is ideal for younger guests, and again, is simply decorated, with deckchair-stripe blinds adding a seaside touch. Also on this floor is the family bathroom, complete with bath and overhead shower. Heading upstairs, guests will discover the breathtaking living space. With windows running along one side of the room offering stunning river views, and fantastic floor-to-ceiling windows and patio doors at one end, the Cornish sunshine simply pours into this room. The high ceilings with exposed wooden beams add to the sense of spaciousness, creating a wonderful place to get together and socialise. The kitchen area is stylish with contemporary white gloss units and well-equipped for rustling up some delicious holiday meals. Guests can sit and enjoy the wonderful views from the dining table by the window, or from the comfortable lounge area at any time of day ¬– either over a morning coffee or with an evening drink in hand as the lights begin to twinkle in the water. Also on this floor is the third bedroom – a charming double with en-suite bathroom complete with a whirlpool bath, perfect for a luxurious soak. With warm wooden flooring and simple seaside décor throughout, Fowey River Cottage has a relaxed holiday vibe guaranteed to relax guests from the moment they arrive.
Wandering outside, guests can enjoy a drink or an al fresco meal at the garden table on the patio area – the ideal spot to enjoy the views or just sit and watch the boats sailing past whilst soaking up the sunshine. Stretch out on the loungers with a glass of something chilled on the lawn or doze in the shade of the palm tree and let your day-to-day worries melt away. Fowey River Cottage is perfect for guests seeking rest and relaxation but with plenty of amenities on the doorstep. Wander out for a waterside pub lunch, take a boat out on the river, or simply stay in and enjoy the views offered in this lovely spot.Fowey sits prettily on the west coast of the picturesque River Fowey estuary in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the southern coast of Cornwall, 22 miles from Truro. Its natural harbour meant the town was an important port and trading post for centuries. It was once the major port in the area, seeing ships departing to fight in France, pirates and privateers seizing goods, and local tin and china clay being exported. Today this charming town with its charming tumble of houses is a magnet for visitors who come to enjoy the river, the history and the beautiful beaches.
Fowey is a delightful place for a stroll, with galleries, gift shops, cafes and cosy pubs to explore at your leisure. From glassware to traditional ceramics, the town benefits from a swathe of creative talent, and each May at the Festival of Arts and Literature, visitors have the opportunity to visit some of the many private studios scattered across the town. Meander your way through the pretty cobbled streets or take a stroll along the seafront from where a number of boat trips depart. Choose from a ferry over to Polruan, a gentle cruise up the river, or even hire your own motor boat and enjoy pootling about on the water for an hour or two.
Just a short 20-minute drive will bring you to the Eden Project. This engineering and horticultural marvel was opened in 2001. Its two glass biomes house an astonishing array of non-native plants in a recreated natural setting. Immerse yourself in the humid atmosphere of the Rainforest biome where you can admire the trees that tower above or look down on the jungle below from the Canopy Walkway. The adjacent Mediterranean biome is hot and dry and will transport you to the landscapes of South Africa, Western Australia and California, with its huge aloe vera plants, vines and vivid flowering plants.
Garden lovers may also wish to pay a visit to the stunning Lost Gardens of Heligan. A romantic and mysterious place, these restored gardens cover 200 acres of land once lost in time before being rediscovered and returned to their former glory. Explore the magnificent jungle, with its giant rhubarb and banana trees, or admire the elegant planning of the extensive Victorian Productive Gardens, and watch out for the iconic sculptures, including the Mud Maid and the Grey Lady on the tranquil Woodland Walk.Ground Floor
