Trelawns in Mawgan Porth, Cornwall, is a well-received holiday cottage, praised for its stunning location, spaciousness, and cleanliness. Guests have enjoyed the beautiful views, proximity to the beach, and the property's large living areas. While some minor maintenance issues and cleanliness concerns in specific areas were mentioned, the overall experience has been positive, with many guests expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found Trelawns to be clean and well-presented upon arrival. There was, however, an isolated report of cleanliness not meeting expectations, which seems to be an exception rather than the norm. The majority of reviews reflect a high standard of cleanliness.
The location of Trelawns is highly praised for its proximity to the beach and local amenities, as well as for the stunning coastal views. Guests have enjoyed the easy access to local attractions and the overall setting in Mawgan Porth.
Guests have consistently noted the comfort provided by Trelawns, mentioning the spaciousness of the rooms, the comfortable beds, and the ample space for large groups. The living areas are particularly appreciated for their ability to accommodate family activities.
The facilities at Trelawns are generally well-regarded, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and ample fridge capacity. Some guests suggested minor improvements and reported maintenance issues, but these do not seem to detract significantly from the overall experience.
While some guests have mentioned receiving a welcome pack with biscuits and wine, there are not enough references to consistently assess the level of thoughtfulness across all stays. It should be noted that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be provided for every stay.
It will take you just three minutes to walk from Trelawns to the award winning, clean, sandy, surfing beach of Mawgan Porth. Trelawns is the perfect holiday location for beach lovers, walkers, families and large groups. The light and airy accommodation with a large sitting room incorporates a spectacular sun lounge, with sea views and direct access to the front garden boasting a terraced seating area, ideal for alfresco dining. In the evening you can sit with a sundowner and watch as the sun gets lower in the sky reflecting its glowing colours onto the sea. Outside is a hot shower for those coming off the beach after a swim and also for washing wetsuits, together with storage for surfboards. Upstairs you can sit on the balcony and look out to sea. The well equipped kitchen/dining area provides plenty of space for all the family to sit and enjoy a meal together. The bedroom accommodation occupies two floors with four toilets plus a wash hand basin in every room. Gastronomes will enjoy excellent restaurants within easy reach at Watergate and Padstow. Mawgan Porth is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and the South West Coastal Path is less than a minute away. There are walks to the south leading to the famous surfing and kite-surfing beach at Watergate Bay and to the north along National Trust headlands to the iconic Bedruthan Steps. A five minute walk takes you to the village with its professional surf school, shops, cafes, restaurants and the popular Merrymoor Inn with beer garden overlooking the beach. Further afield you will find - The Eden project, Lanhydrock House and gardens, and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. Trelawns is a perfect holiday home for a large group of friends or a family who want to explore Cornwall but also enjoy the local beach and amenities.
Nestled between Newquay and Padstow on the beautiful north Cornish coast, Mawgan Porth is a sheltered cove with golden sandy beach, great surf and plenty of caves and coastal footpath to explore. With little distraction from its golden sands, life here revolves around the beach. Laze in the summer sun, learn to ride the waves, or watch over stormy seas on a refreshing cliff top stroll. Mawgan Porth is also home to the fabulous adults-only Scarlet Hotel, which offers Spa treatments and facilities to non-residents - and nearby Watergate Bay is the setting for Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant, which sits in a fantastic location just above the beach. Mawgan Porth has a handful of shops, including a village store and deli, and a farm shop selling locally sourced meat, eggs, vegetables, bread and pasties, as well as tennis courts, a pitch and putt, and an 18-hole golf course overlooking the Atlantic.

We have stayed in many rented houses home and abroad and although this one was very spacious and ideal for a large family, we felt there are a few areas that need attention and the description is lacking one vital piece of information. There is a steep drive up to the parking area, where we were asked to park close to the house, as there is an apartment above the double garage and store room in the back garden, over looking the house. This was accessed through the week whilst we were staying. We had a transporter and saloon car parked, if my daughter would have brought hers we would have blocked the access area. My mother is of a nervous disposition and it was upsetting her with someone coming and going and even cleaning their van there. This should be stated in the description. The house itself was lovely and well equipped but the downstairs views are obscured by the Scarlet Hotel, which is a shame. We did not use the downstairs bedrooms or bathroom as due to illness some of the family could not make it, however, none of the doors close properly, the handles are all loose and catches not working. The bathroom needs revamping, broken tiles. The bathroom near the kitchen needs a revamp and door is broken, looks like it's been forced open, it does not stay shut unless locked. The ensuite bathroom upstairs is lovely, the window above the double sink has beautiful views and is in direct line of the neighbours sitting room! This needs some privacy glass or film, to at least the bottom of it. Decking is lovely with views over the coast and plenty of seating, shame all the cushions were locked away though. The upstairs beds were comfy, spacious and warm. It was just a shame, I have never come across this before, none of the bedding in all 6 bedrooms was ironed, it was as if they'd been dried screwed up then put on the beds, not a good look! The same with the saggy cushions on the couches. To me and my family it does not make a good first impression. With just a little more care and time this home would be worth the money being charged. Don't get me wrong, those of us who made it, had a lovely time. If it was everyone, it would have been different, due to issues with parking, bathrooms and downstairs sleeping areas. Vacuum needed under the beds. Also the large shattered pane of glass in living room that is awaiting replacement. (We were told about the glass 2d before arrival) We don't normally moan about things, but it was a gathering after losing my dad unexpectedly, earlier in the year, and we wanted it to be special. It's the little things that count. I feel this is an honest review.
