Parula is a cosy and comfortable cottage in Cornwall, appreciated for its cleanliness, convenient location, and the warm welcome from the hosts. Guests have enjoyed the thoughtful touches, such as fresh flowers and local treats, and found the property to be a peaceful base for exploring nearby attractions. While some have noted areas for improvement in maintenance and facilities, the overall experience has been positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found Parula clean and well-presented, with some minor areas noted for improvement. While a few guests mentioned issues with dampness and mould, these seem to be exceptions rather than the norm.
The cottage is well-liked for its location, offering easy access to local beaches, shops, and attractions. Some discrepancies in the advertised distance to certain landmarks were noted, but the overall sentiment about the location is positive.
Guests have praised the comfort of the sofas, beds, and the overall cosy atmosphere of the cottage. The presence of occasional aircraft noise was mentioned, but it did not significantly detract from the comfort for most guests.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, though some guests have pointed out a lack of storage space for food, stiff drawers, and a need for more kitchen utensils. The presence of a full-size dishwasher was appreciated, but the limited crockery meant it was underutilised.
Many guests mentioned the thoughtful gestures from the hosts, such as cream teas, fresh eggs, and flowers. These touches contributed significantly to the positive experiences, although it is important to note that such gifts are not guaranteed.
Close to the coast, Parula is a smart pad for two in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Access to the Coast Path is a 20 minutes walk and St Just is 1.8 miles from Parula. It sits amid open fields and atmospheric moorlands in the hamlet setting of Kelynack, just one mile from the bustling town and beautiful coastline of St Just. Walkers, romantics, beachcombers, bird watchers, artists, and city escapees will love it here! Step out the front door and follow the lane down to where it meets the south west coast path and Nanquidno Cove, which is a popular spot for bird watching, surfing and spectacular sunsets. For epic views, follow the path west along tall granite cliffs to Gwenver Beach, Sennen Cove and Land's End or head east towards Cape Cornwall and St Just where you will find good pubs, cafes and delicatessens as well as several art galleries, including Kurt Jackson's Jackson Foundation. Continue a little farther to explore the iconic engine houses at Botallack where the Poldark mine scenes were filmed. Follow the scenic coast road to St Ives for world-class beaches and restaurants plus a tempting array of trendy boutique shops and arty galleries, including the Tate. The castle topped island of St Michael's Mount and The Minack, an outdoor theatre carved into the cliff face, are also a must for the itinerary. Situated beside the owners home but none the less, private, modern and pristine, Parula is a comfortable bungalow to return to. Sit out on the sheltered patio with a glass of red at hand, fire up the barbecue and admire rural views, Parula is adjacent to Lands End Aerodrome with flights to the Isles of Scilly. Newly refurbished, the interior is arranged on one level. All mod cons are provided, from a dishwasher to a washer dryer, and coffee machine. The sitting room has plump sofas, good books/games, a dining table and a door to the private patio. You will find a spacious bedroom with a comfortable bed dressed in cotton bed linens and ample storage. The sparkling shower room includes thick fluffy towels and a shower that is large enough for two.
St Just is the nearest town to Lands End and is situated approximately eight miles west of Penzance. The town itself is an ancient settlement that has a strong mining history and there are several monuments and prehistoric antiquities to visit including the Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. St Just is ideally located for visitors to explore the far west of Cornwall as it is situated on the edge of the moors and close to the beautiful north coast. In the centre of the town is Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times, and in more recent times for the Lafrowda Festival.
