About this property

A comfy home from Home, Tarquol Cottage sleeps four guests and is one of five welcoming holiday homes at Stowford Lodge set within extensive grounds in North Devon just three miles from Great Torrington. With facilities such as a children's play area and field, woodland path and indoor swimming pool, there is plenty on-site to keep the little ones entertained and a host of attractions for day trips out including the lovely sandy beaches at Bude and Westward Ho!, RHS Garden Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal, the Tarka Trail for traffic free cycling and the pretty villages of Appledore and Clovelly.

Tarquol Cottage is part of a collection of five holiday properties at Stowford Lodge. The cottage accommodates four guests and is perfect for family holidays. Guests have access to six private acres of land that include a children’s play area, football field, woodland path, and indoor swimming pool. Despite its peaceful, rural setting, Stowford Lodge is only three miles from the centre of Great Torrington.

Great Torrington is the ideal place to stay to see all the best sites in North Devon. The small town has a friendly atmosphere and a thriving arts scene which you can see for yourself at places like Dartington Crystal and the art gallery in the historic Pannier Market, or experience first-hand by creating your own work of art at Tarka Pottery. The nearby RHS Garden, Rosemoor, is impressively beautiful and an absolute must for keen gardeners. The town has a good variety of supermarkets, shops and pubs. The more substantial town of Barnstaple, where there are more amenities and a good market, is around a twenty minute drive away.

It would be a shame to visit North Devon without immersing yourself in the stunning scenery. Walking and cycling are particularly popular, and it is possible to find a trail that is appropriate for any level of ability. The Tarka Trail runs for eleven miles from Great Torrington to Bideford and is suitable for the whole family as it has a smooth tarmac surface and is virtually flat. The path starts a mere quarter of a mile from Tarquol Cottage, and you can hire a bike locally if you do not bring your own on holiday with you.

In addition to great bike rides, there are some wonderful walks that wend their way around the region. A good example is a walk that starts at the car park in Torrington and goes around the golf course and up gorse-covered Furzebeam to Rice Point where your efforts are rewarded with remarkable views. The Hartland Peninsula offers more footpaths, including some incredible cliff-top paths, or you could wander through pretty villages such as Appledore, Instow and Clovelly.

Devon’s world-famous beaches are less than half an hour’s drive from Tarquol Cottage. Bude and Westward Ho! are two of the better-known beaches, with the former being a favourite place to learn to surf with its excellent surfing schools and favourable conditions. There are some superb golf courses near Tarquol Cottage, as well as clay-pigeon shooting, 4WD tracks and paint-balling. If the children still have any energy left after a day of fun activities, let them run it off on the football pitch at Stowford Lodge while you relax with a cold drink and a barbecue.
