About this property

Post Office Cottage is a beautifully presented Grade 2 listed thatched cottage located in the heart of the picturesque village of Osmington in Dorset. A picture postcard cottage, this once former post office has been converted and extended yet retains much period charm and many original features including exposed stone, ceiling beams and feature inglenook fireplaces. With a bright and spacious interior, this carefully thought out and styled 4 bedroomed family home is ideal for friends or family groups looking to enjoy all that this delightful part of Dorset has to offer.

Arranged over two floors, the ground floor accommodation boasts a large lounge with Smart TV and large inglenook fireplace, a charming room and a perfect spot for the group to relax and come together. The separate sitting room, with natural floors and exposed beams provides the ideal place to sit quietly with a book.

The kitchen really is the heart of this home with vaulted ceilings and patio doors which open onto the garden, flooding the room with light. With Belfast sink and range cooker, this well-equipped room makes for memorable mealtimes sat around the large table and chairs. Doors lead from the kitchen to the impressive cottage garden which is simply waiting to be explored. Step out from the kitchen on to the patio with seating to enjoy your morning coffee or simply soak in the tranquil setting. A pathway leads to the rest of the garden which is arranged on various levels with pretty roses and other cottage style planting. A lawn area at the bottom is the perfect place for the youngsters in the group to play although care will need to be taken around and near the small pond.

The first of the four impressive bedrooms is located on the ground floor and enjoys views looking out to the garden. A king size bedroom with an exposed stone feature wall and vaulted ceiling, this room is spacious and bright with the convenience of an ensuite shower room.

The remaining three bedrooms can be found on the first floor and include a large king size bedroom, a slightly smaller second king size bedroom and a children’s room with bunk beds and a cot. The family bathroom, where you can relax in the roll top bath, is also located on this floor.

From the cottage you can take a walk to view the Osmington White Horse, an iconic landmark carved in 1883 and nestled on the hillside above the village. There are two village shops you can walk to (or drive to in minutes) and the local pub, which dates from the 13th century, has sea views to the Isle of Portland and serves good pub food and the local 'Badger beer'. The local dairy farm (a two-minute walk) has a tearoom and serves their own ice cream. An area popular with walkers, there are several beaches within walking distance - the closest a 15 minute walk, generally very quiet as only accessible by foot. The Smugglers Inn is a remarkable pub which can be reached in a 30 min walk or 4 min drive (with plenty of parking). It's used by locals and tourists alike, has excellent service and boasts a charm like no other coastal pub and the local beer is delicious.

A visit to this area must include a trip into Weymouth, a seaside town with a stunning harbour, old castles and forts and an award-winning golden sand beach. The town boast a great selection of independent restaurants and cafes and some of the best fish and chips in the country. The Jurassic Coast is a short drive away, or by fun open air bus ride. Taking in Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove and beautiful Swanage. Many a day can be spent fossil hunting and rock pooling.

For a truly memorable holiday close to the coast in idyllic Dorset, Post Office Cottage is the ideal choice.

Osmington village, sits on the Jurassic coastline of Dorset, just 6 miles from Weymouth with it’s infamous beach and historic harbour and just 11 miles from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Home to the famous Chalk hillside carving of George III on horseback, cut into the hillside to commemorate the Royal visits to Weymouth, this landmark can be seen from miles away. It is also the place that John Constable spent his honeymoon in 1816 and where he completed his painting of Weymouth Bay that now hangs in the National Gallery. The South West Coastal path runs through Osmington Mills, a tiny hamlet on the edge of Osmington. Here many walkers start their coast path walks at the Smugglers inn, where reputedly there are historic connections to smuggling. Be sure to visit to find out all the stories. A short drive will see you reach a local convenience store at Preston. Weymouth offers a larger variety of shopping, eating and entertainment choices.
