The Boar is a charming, detached cottage, situated next to the owners' home, with reverse-level accommodation and a hot tub, set on the outskirts of the ancient village of Blakeney within the south-east edge of the Forest of Dean. This romantic retreat has a charming ground-floor bedroom offering a sumptuous double bed accompanied by an en-suite shower room, which has underfloor heating. Make your way up the wrought iron and wooden spiral staircase to the first-floor, open-plan living accommodation where you’ll find a contemporary kitchen featuring exposed stone wall, a dining area, and a sitting area with a floor-to-ceiling window offering lovely views towards the River Severn. Through the door from the living area is a patio with furniture, ideal for alfresco dining or a relaxing dip in the hot tub after a day exploring the area, where you can take in the charming views of the surrounding countryside. Walks to the Forest of Dean can be enjoyed right from the doorstep, or why not take a stroll to the village of Blakeney to enjoy a drink in the village pub or sample a treat of local fish and chips from the local fish and chip shop? Nearby visits to Clearwell Caves, Littledean Jail, or Symonds Yat Rock can all be discovered, meaning there’s something for everyone in this delightful area. The pretty riverside towns of Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are also located close by. A delightful cottage for a romantic holiday to remember, choose The Boar for your next stay in Gloucestershire. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1143160, together sleeping up to four guests.
The ancient village of Blakeney lies on the southeast edge of the Royal Forest of Dean and was once a site of a Roman Villa dating back to 75AD. Equidistant to Gloucester and Monmouth, the village boasts many 16th and 17th century buildings, with a charming 16th century coaching inn, and also offers a good selection of amenities including a fish and chip shop, village store and Post Office, as well as numerous walks and cycle routes. The magnificent Royal Forest of Dean, England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, boasts numerous trails that can be explored on foot, by bike or horseback. Caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course can be enjoyed by the more adventurous, whilst fishing, golf, kayaking and canoeing are other popular activities available in this unspoilt area. The eerie caverns and ancient caves of Clearwell are close by, as are the Gloucestershire Way and Offa's Dyke Path for wonderful walks. Close by, Symonds Yat boasts natural scenery and straddles the beautiful River Wye with its magnificent limestone rock, popular with climbers, and well known for its viewpoint. Visit the historic town of Monmouth, which offers a fusion of elegant Georgian mansions and Victorian courtyards, or the lovely town of Ross-on-Wye with its timbered Tudor houses and delightful riverside walks, both home to excellent shops, pubs and restaurants. The unspoilt Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacon National Park and Black Mountains, as well as lovely Cotswold towns and villages are just a little further afield.
