A steep, narrow footpath, approximately 240 yards, leads to the cottage. Once at the cottage, the peaceful location offers a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Set within 1 acre of gardens, the views that can be enjoyed are spectacular. This semi-detached, period cottage was once a cider mill, and a donkey was used to transport the produce up and down the hill. The original cider press still has pride of place at the cottage.
The gardens are a particular feature of the property, and positioned at one side of the front garden is an area of suspended timber decking with a delightful summerhouse/unstocked bar, and has views across the tree lined valley. The greater area of land however extends rearwards from this area of garden, and comprises of a steeply sloping grassy bank with a wide variety of trees, species including walnut, a large old cider apple and a number of younger apple trees, together with hazel and others. Here, there is a pergola and further seating area, so the sunshine can be enjoyed all day long. Guests are welcome to pick the garden produce, which includes wild garlic, apples, plums, pears, gooseberries, blackcurrants, whitecurrants, strawberries and blackberries. This characterful holiday cottage has the additional benefit of a balcony room off the master bedroom.
Mill Cottage is situated in the Forest of Dean, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the forest and the many activities available in the area, including fabulous walking, cycling, golf, canoeing and family days out.
