About this property

This barn conversion , in the beautiful South Pennines, lies above the traditional village of Slaithwaite, home to historic features and 15th century buildings. With a cosy cottage feel, Greystones at Newgate is perfect for relaxing, particularly suited for families wanting to escape from it all or a group of friends wishing to build some memories together. In a remote location with countryside views, this retreat is adjacent to the owner's farm, a peaceful landscape which greets you upon arrival. The farm sits in 10 hectares of marginal moorland managed as a haven for moorland birds such as lapwings, twite and curlew. Ponies graze peacefully in the adjacent fields. A walkers paradise, maps & walk guides are provided with easy access to moorland reservoirs, ancient pack horse tracks and Marsden, Moor (National Trust). Enter into the small hallway and down four steps, where you will discover a homely lounge, presented with soft furnishings and a characterful overtone. The woodburning stove sets the scene for a cosy night in, and with a double sofa bed included, this is a lovely place to snuggle up after a long afternoon. The immaculate kitchen is off-set by cashmere units and black granite countertops, featuring a collection of neat appliances, and a dining table for those appetising meals prepared by your own private chef. Two steps take you up to a contemporary wet room, an all-white suite styled with a rainfall shower. For a peaceful night's sleep, choose from two beautiful bedrooms, a delightful small single bed, the second bedroom consists of a double bed, tucked away into the open eaves and overlooked by electronic Velux windows. The master bedroom boasts a double bed plus a single day bed, should a family room be required. Outside is a covered south-facing patio with a barbecue and fire pit, to elevate those cooler evenings. A terraced garden leads down to a stream, wrapped in views of the woods and hills, a truly memorable backdrop. Hidden corners provide tranquil places to sit, away from the world. Two miles down the valley in Slaithwaite (Slawit), the viaduct dominates the skyline and is an awe-inspiring sight, whilst the village centre is very enticing with the restored Huddersfield Narrow Canal running through and a selection of shops, self-brewing pubs and independent eateries, including the award winning Hand Made Bakery. A yoga studio, arts centres and leisure centre with gym and pool offer a range of activities. The nearby village of Marsden boasts the tourist attractions of Tunnel End and the National Trust's Marsden Moor Estate is a haven for walkers and naturalists alike, and it also hosts the internationally renowned Jazz Festival each year. Alternatively, a short drive takes you to the historic city of York, elegant Harrogate, Leeds or Skipton, regarded as the 'Gateway to the Dales'.

Full of history, the village of Slaithwaite retains several buildings from the mid 15th century, including Slaithwaite Hall in Yorkshire.
