South Front Apartment is a very comfortable ground floor apartment on the front of 16th Century Ingleby Manor, a grade II* listed building surrounded by 50 acres of private gardens and woodland in the beautiful North York Moors National Park. The historic walled garden has a croquet lawn and barbeque and picnic area and a children's play area in the Orchard. Walk down to the trout stream past the ponies and miniature donkeys and follow some of the lovely paths through the woods including one along the deerleap earthworks. You may be lucky enough to see the wild deer. For the keen walker, a ten-minute climb up the escarpment of the Cleveland Hills brings you onto the Cleveland Way. The Lyke Wake Walk and the Coast to Coast walk. In Ingleby village itself there is a friendly pub with restaurant, and a beautiful church with Saxon remains. Five miles further afield the pretty green village of Great Ayton which was the boyhood home of famous explorer Captain James Cook RN, and Stokesley has a weekly market and monthly Farmers’ Market in the handsome square. Both villages have interesting independent shops and food stores selling local produce and a variety of good cafes and restaurants.

Ingleby Manor was built around 1540 by the Eure family, soldiers and courtiers of Henry viii, but was sold in 1608 to Sir David Foulis who came down to England with James VI of Scotland when he become James I of England. The last lady Foulis married into the de Lisle family of Penshurst in the mid 1800s and it remained in that family until it was sold to the present owners in 1951. Although a very grand and historically important house, it has always been a family home and the atmosphere is relaxed country life.

South Front is accessed through the Front Hall and guests can unload at the main front door before driving round to park in the main courtyard. The sitting room with log-burning stove was once Lord de Lisle's private dining room and is very bright with two big windows and window seats with lovely views over the front of the manor to the woods. The kitchen is fully equipped and has a farmhouse table for leisurely family meals. The two bedrooms, one king and one twin, have Hypnos beds and good quality bedding and stylish furnishing. The king bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with roll-top bath and the twin has a separate shower room. There is access from South Front hallway into a little enclosed courtyard with bistro-style table and chairs for enjoying your morning coffee, or there are lots of lovely hidden corners with seating in the grounds and gardens.
