About this property

Like a miniature “Downton Abbey”, this 18th century manor in Yorkshire infuses a sense of grandeur into everyday life. Stately, spacious rooms - furnished with antiques and the finest linens - invite you to enjoy a heightened country lifestyle. You’ll be greeted by the housekeeper, who will help you settle in and decide which sights to see (besides the 3 acres of beautiful gardens).

This holiday manor features endless spaces for entertaining. The traditional dining room has space for 18 to feast, while a fireplace and family portraits look on. Have a friendly game in the billiards room, flooded with light from tall windows and the roof lantern above, or enjoy tea in the traditional drawing room, where arched windows look out on the gardens beyond. You'll feel like royalty in the bedrooms, featuring Super king and Emperor-size beds, feather pillows, and plush, high-quality bedding.

The nearest town is Middleham, a settlement that has existed since Roman times, and now houses your local pub just 1 km away. The eponymous castle is well worth a visit - a striking roofless ruin set in flawless farmland. Dales National Park is nearby, a 15 minute drive will take you to Aysgarth Falls.

*Please note that guests staying in groups of 20 or less will only have access to the 10 bedrooms in the Main House and not the new West Wing, if you wish to have access to the entire home then you will need to book at the maximum capacity rate.

The house is a charming, 18th century Georgian manor set on 3 acres of private walled garden and situated in the heart of picturesque Middleham.

Middleham was once known as ‘the Windsor of the North’ because of the frequent visits of monarchs and nobles to Middleham Castle. It was also home to Richard III in 1471. It is a picturesque dale village with its own Castle, parish church, and charming market square surrounded by local pubs, restaurants, shops, rivers and the most stunning landscape in the country.

The village today derives much of its prosperity from the breeding and training of racehorses, and there are many well known racing stables in and around the town.

The owner was friendly and responsive. The cleaner / helper that met us on the first day was super-friendly and helpful throughout. We had an issue with hot water on one occasion, that was fixed within hours. The house is very large and the garden, whilst not enormous, is very nice. Middleham is a lovely quiet village, a stone's throw away from lots of nice countryside and our kids especially enjoyed visiting Bolton Castle and Lightwater Valley, both short journeys away. However, the house is a bit dated and could use a bit of touching up and tlc. This is apparent throughout, most obviously in the snooker room. Also, almost none of the windows would open, which made it difficult to get air in the bedrooms, during our summer visit. For the pretty significant price, we would have expected it to have been slightly better maintained.

It was a great location right in the middle of the village but still private. The house itself, had all the space we need and the bedrooms hit all our requirements. We also had a local private chef for a couple of nights which we highly recommend. There was so much to do in the area, we all want to come back! The only negatives were some of the electrics were a little muddling as some lamps didn't work in some locations. Also my father is a Charter Surveyor and he was certain he smelt dry rot in the Drawing room, so recommends you get someone to check it out if you haven't already. Wonderful holiday, thank you so much!

We were a large family group of 16 adults and eight children and stayed for 3 nights in April. The housekeeper met us on arrival and showed us around and we all felt wonderfully at home in Leyburn Manor. There was plenty of space for us all to be together and and have privacy too. The house was very well equipped and the bedrooms very comfortable with plenty of bathrooms. It is in an excellent position in the middle of the village and yet is well secluded with great space for children to play. There is plenty to do in the area and great walks locally. We would definitely like to return.
